Southampton fans have experienced some pretty bad times - relegation to League One being just one.

However, it's hasn't been too shoddy the last couple of seasons, has it? Recent finishes of eighth and seventh brought European football, although that turned out to be one of those forgettable occasions.

Ronald Koeman's side have won just once this season, a 3-0 victory against Norwich. Three further draws and a loss has left them 15th in the table. Plenty of room for improvement.

Meanwhile, the pigeon in the crowd has frightened the opposition into submission, helping the Saints achieve clean sheets in their last three games. Scary stuff!

Former Southampton full-back Luke Shaw had an excellent start to the new season and, arguably, has been their best player so far.

The England international seemed to have put a difficult first season behind him, looking fit, sharp and full of energy.

Then disaster struck on Tuesday. The Manchester United man made a marauding run forward in the Champions League against PSV before being chopped down by defender Hector Moreno.

A double leg fracture later, Shaw has to start all over again. He may not play again this season.

Leaders Manchester City suffered a shock defeat against West Ham, while early season high-flyers Leicester drew against Stoke.

A win today and it all looks rosy for Manchester United, up to second in the league, just two points behind their city rivals.

Can Louis van Gaal's side capitalise?
