Memphis Depay can't control the ball inside the area and Juan Mata nearly nips in, but Virgil van Dijk has to stretch and clear the ball to safety. Home side under pressure now. How can they react?

A lot of passes involved in that United equaliser, some poor defending from Southampton as well, and a neat finish from Anthony Martial (number nine).

Nicely poised this game now, the goal has knocked the stuffing out of Southampton and they are just dropping a little bit deeper in order to get through to half time.

United will be much the happier side if it stays like this until the interval.

A new Red Devils hero has arrived. You can see why people make the Thierry Henry comparisons, he's got ice running through his veins inside the penalty area. So cool, calm and collected.

To be honest, United didn't deserve that, but that's four goals from their last four shots on target. Clinical stuff.

Such slow build-up from United, all very pedestrian and easy to defend against. Lots of passing from right to left but they are not going anywhere. Where's the penetration?

"It's probably the same question here as at Liverpool with all the money being spent. Where are we in the scheme of things?

"Liverpool are rushing Daniel Sturridge back and Manchester United with Anthony Martial are force-feeling a 19-year-old into a really pressured situation after spending goodness knows how much money.

"They are spending a lot of money and where's it all gone. They have spent all that money and are still chasing players and it should be all done."

Again, Wayne Rooney gets a pass wrong and United have to retreat before starting a move again. The visitors have not tested Maarten Stekelenburg yet. The Dutchman has had an easy afternoon so far.

Anthony Martial showing great pace to burst forward, but his pass towards Memphis Depay is wayward and Maya Yoshida picks it out with ease.

Again, Graziano Pelle shields the ball well from the opposition defenders, receiving warm applause from the home fans for his excellent work.

Paul Gibbons : United haven't progressed at all since last season still look so disjointed all over the pitch.

Just looking at a replay from the last incident, Marcos Rojo seems to barge Dusan Tadic inside the area, but the referee waved away claims for a penalty.

It could have been given.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama go into each other while sliding for a 50-50 ball. No fuss from either player, both just get up and carried on.

Striker Graziano Pelle is giving Daley Blind a torrid time, this time nicking the ball to feed Sadio Mane, who can't find Dusan Tadic with a pull back.

Chance! Juan Mata clips a ball to the far post for the onrushing Memphis Depay, but the Dutchman times his jump wrong and heads over the bar. He should have done better there. 

This Southampton side haven't conceded in their last three games so you have to take every opportunity that comes your way.
