Howls of frustration from Manchester United's fans as Wayne Rooney opts against seeking out an option further forward and turns around to pass back. He is not having the best of games.

David Ljunggren: Can anyone explain what Rooney does to justify his enormous salary? He has been shockingly poor so far. 

Andrew Priestley: This game is crying put for someone to put their foot on the ball and grab this game by the scruff of the net. Rooney? Yaya? 

Paul Humphreys: Yet another really poor performance by Rooney. Get him off and stick Martial in the centre.

Razor sharp, Joe Hart! Juan Mata beats a lazy City offside trap to gallop into space but Hart is a page ahead, getting there first and sweeping up.

Misunderstanding as Bastian Schweinsteiger floats a pass over the top but Juan Mata had checked his run. A first change is on the cards as Jesus Navas strips off.

Maybe Dave Broome was right and this is now loosening up. From the second Manchester United corner Chris Smalling floats a header across goal, it just needs a touch, but Morgan Schneiderlin can't get there and it goes wide!

Incident! A genuine incident as Ander Herrera has a shot deflected away. Form the short corner Herrera goes down under a challenge from Raheem Sterling and wants a penalty - it's close too!

Wayne Rooney with the ball to feet, pulls out wide, drifts back and then loses the ball. It's not working up front for Manchester United.

It turns out that first half was the first time they did not have an effort on goal at all in the opening 45 minutes since 2003-04.

De Bruyne at inside centre? He'd get marmalised. Season over inside the opening 10 minutes.  I like your outside the box thinking though. Top marks.
