Into the last quarter at Old Trafford. It's not a derby that will live long in the memory - yet.

Can anyone spark it into life?

Wayne Rooney doesn't shoot, can't pass and spends too much time too deep. He's supposed to be our central striker. Get him off and put Martial up top, he's actually threatening.

Howls of frustration from Manchester United's fans as Wayne Rooney opts against seeking out an option further forward and turns around to pass back. He is not having the best of games.

David Ljunggren: Can anyone explain what Rooney does to justify his enormous salary? He has been shockingly poor so far.

Andrew Priestley: This game is crying put for someone to put their foot on the ball and grab this game by the scruff of the net. Rooney? Yaya?

Paul Humphreys: Yet another really poor performance by Rooney. Get him off and stick Martial in the centre.

Razor sharp, Joe Hart! Juan Mata beats a lazy City offside trap to gallop into space but Hart is a page ahead, getting there first and sweeping up.

Harry Kane has scored his second of the game as Spurs cruise towards victory on the south coast.

Encouraging signs for City fans as first Yaya Toure threatens to break in behind only for Phil Jones to recover well, and then Kevin de Bruyne whips in a low cross from the left but Wilfried Bony doesn't get across his man.

Misunderstanding as Bastian Schweinsteiger floats a pass over the top but Juan Mata had checked his run. A first change is on the cards as Jesus Navas strips off.

This is a fantastic defensive play from both teams! Goals and chances don't make a contest.

So TV pundits comment about it's a close, tight good game and online BBC say it's dire!! Opinions opinions and damn opinions.

Defending is as big a part of the game as sticking it in the onion bag. If you want razzmatazz, watch NFL

Maybe Dave Broome was right and this is now loosening up. From the second Manchester United corner Chris Smalling floats a header across goal, it just needs a touch, but Morgan Schneiderlin can't get there and it goes wide!

  15. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 50 mins

Incident! A genuine incident as Ander Herrera has a shot deflected away. Form the short corner Herrera goes down under a challenge from Raheem Sterling and wants a penalty - it's close too!

Wayne Rooney with the ball to feet, pulls out wide, drifts back and then loses the ball. It's not working up front for Manchester United.

It turns out that first half was the first time they did not have an effort on goal at all in the opening 45 minutes since 2003-04.

De Bruyne at inside centre? He'd get marmalised. Season over inside the opening 10 minutes.  I like your outside the box thinking though. Top marks.

As a means of amusing myself during this drab derby, I have been compiling a Manchester rugby XV in my head from the players on show on this rugby World Cup semi final weekend. I have the following: 1. Rooney 2. Sagna 3. Otamendi 4. Kompany (c) 5. Smalling 6. Hart 7. Rojo 8. Yaya 9. Herrera 10. Schneiderlin 11. Sterling 12. De Bruyne 13. Kolorov 14. Valencia 15. Martial. Gruesome!

Hopefully you'll stick with us for the time being, though, as this one might just be a slow burner.
