Having just come back from New York, I managed to catch a few New York Mets games, who are currently flying in the play offs. What I found odd, is that a lot Yankees fans I spoke to (who aren't in the play offs) were happy to back the Mets, as they are in the same city. Would this ever happen in Manchester? Or football in general?

We're not exactly putting our necks on the line here George, but suspect there's little love lost between these two.

City again look very vulnerable out wide as Marcos Rojo puts a cross over. Nothing from City as an attacking force yet.

Yaya Toure gets a touch of luck as he hacks down Wayne Rooney in the centre-circle and referee Mark Clattenburg decides not to book him. Definitely got away with one there.

Antonio Valencia then puts another cross out of play. Poor delivery but the United full-back pushing well on.

    Man Utd 0-0 Man City

Antonio Valencia takes on Aleksandar Kolarov and gets a cross in but he doesn't get the corner he should have done.

City were poor in both full-back positions in midweek. Run ragged at times by Sevilla.

England manager Roy Hodgson takes his seat in the Old Trafford directors' box as the teams warm up. Hodgson will be casting his eye over his captain Wayne Rooney as well as Manchester City's Raheem Sterling. Good chance for United defender Phil Jones to impress as well - and Hodgson has always been impressed by Chris Smalling, something of a project for the manager from their days together at Fulham.

Nicolas Otamendi goes direct to Wilfried Bony but his radar is off and that's a routine clearance. All passion, no composure yet.

Colourful is the word, John. A fragrant atmosphere inside an autumnal Old Trafford. Who will be celebrating this evening?

"They have decided not to play music in the build-up to today's game which has certainly seen both sets of fans inside Old Trafford exchange some colourful songs."

I'm a big fan of Joe Hart's tunnel chat.

The City keeper has just said the two following gems:

    'Let's see you today Fernando!'

    And 'Keep on scoring Kevin!'

    Inspirational.

A raucous atmosphere inside Old Trafford as the players gather in the tunnel. Vincent Kompany treats the other three members of his back four to a little hug as Sergio Aguero looks on in a cracking jacket/jeans/white t-shirt combo. How they'd like to have him out on the field today.

Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs and Manchester City coach Brian Kidd are in deep discussion on the touchline. Plenty of past history there as Kidd, who scored when United beat Benfica 4-1 in the 1968 European Cup Final, was Sir Alex Ferguson's right-hand man as Giggs played his part in bringing success back to Old Trafford.

  20. 'Blind is not a centre-half'published at 13:48

Manchester United v Manchester City (14:05 GMT)

Former Blackburn and Chelsea striker Chris Sutton believes Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has dodged a bullet by not picking Daley Blind at centre-back today.

"Blind is not a centre-half. He is a nice footballer, but he isn’t a centre-half," said Sutton on BBC Radio 5 live. "When you strip it back you need your best defenders and Phil Jones is by far a better defender.

“He is quicker, more physical and will not get exposed. Wilfried Bony would pick on Blind."
