"It's woeful. There's only one man with any impetus and that's Anthony Martial. He's the only one with an attack mind. It's so negative at the moment."

Kevin de Bruyne whips in a free-kick but Bastian Schweinsteiger clears the front post with an excellent header.

"This game is now officially poor! The match is just being played between the two penalty areas."

I can't help but feel that Anthony Martial is wasted out on the left for Manchester United. He does well to cut inside and beat two players but then he's still 30 yards from goal when he lays the ball off.

Kevin de Bruyne and Yaya Toure then link up well at the other end but again there is no end product.

Wayne Rooney has had his head stapled back together and he's back with us. Maybe that knock to the head will liven him up.

It's frantic so far, but not very good as Kevin de Bruyne shanks a cross into a red shirt.

"There's not really been a shot in anger on target yet. Sergio Aguero's here watching in the stands - possibly texting China's president Xi Jinping updates."

Wayne Rooney sprints off the field for some treatment after a clash of heads with Vincent Kompany. He's bleeding, but it doesn't look too serious (I have no medical background).

Rooney has had six touches so far and played two passes.

Nothing to get excited about here so far - in fact rather dull. Seen a couple of pieces of fast footwork from Manchester United teenage Anthony Martial that drew foul but barely anything in the way of quality.

City's attackers starting to come to life - brilliant touch from Kevin de Bruyne leads to an attack down the left, he sends Yaya Toure into the area and he should have a corner but the officials give a goal-kick.

  13. Villa updatepublished at 14:24 Greenwich Mean Time 25 October 2015

    Aston Villa

The latest on the rumour mill - and I very much stress that we have no confirmation - is that one-time Arsenal midfielder Remi Garde is the favourite for the Aston Villa job. Tim Sherwood was sacked this morning.

Rash! Manchester City finally get their £50m+ man into the game as Kevin de Bruyne surges into the right channel but under pressure he can't pick a team-mate out. He had two in the box but Chris Smalling closed him well. This game hasn't caught fire yet.

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 15 mins

That is a booking. Well played Anthony Martial out on the left wing, he cuts inside and commits two men, and the second one Fernandinho chops across and brings him down. That's a yellow card.

  17. CLOSE!published at 13 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Man City

There he is! Manchester City get the ball into the feet of Raheem Sterling for the first time and he creates danger, dancing in from the left, putting Phil Jones on his backside and shooting from 12 yards out - Chris Smalling and Jones combine to block it out though.

Is that how it works? No.

City now having more of the ball after that early United barrage. Dangermen Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne are yet to get into the game though.

"That was probably a yellow card for Yaya Toure, but if the referee books him then he sets the benchmark for the game and doesn't want to do that."

American sport is a very different kettle of fish in my experience. Not as tribal.

United have a tentative shout for a penalty waved away as the ball hits the arm of Fernandinho but Juan Mata played it at him, nothing given.
