Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said if he was still in charge in four years time, he would have landed at least one piece of silverware.

It is 25 years since Liverpool last won the league - their 18th top-flight title - under Kenny Dalglish.

"Twenty-five years ago is a long time," said Klopp. "History is only the base for us; [we shouldn't] keep the history in our backpack all day.

"I ask, please give us time. If you are patient and are prepared to work, in a special Liverpool way we can be successful."

The Reds' last major trophy came in in 2012. Your job is far from easy Jurgen...

This is a heat map tracking the areas covered by Liverpool forward Divock Origi (left) and Southampton counterpart Graziano Pelle.

As you can see, the Saints lone frontman has been the busier of the two despite his side having less possession than the opposition.

Although it hasn't been a great game, only against Arsenal this season did Liverpool have more shots in the first half in the Premier League than they have today.

Of their nine shots though only one has been on target.

"Southampton have been excellent, soaked up the pressure and looked to hit Liverpool on the counter. Simon Mignolet has made a couple of saves but his opposite number has barely had one of note."

    HT: Liverpool 0-0 Southampton

It is fair to say Divock Origi has not had the biggest of impacts for Liverpool this half.

The Belgian has had just 10 touches, the least of any player on the field, and hasn't touched the ball inside the penalty area.

I wonder how Christian Benetke is enjoying himself on the bench?

"It's been difficult for Divock Origi. He's had nothing to go far, nothing to get on the end of. You must not forget he's only 20. With the players Liverpool have missing he's probably feeling a bit of pressure as well."

    Liverpool 0-0 Southampton

A bit of a positive for Liverpool fans.

You have averaged 52.14% possession so far this season but have had nearly 10% higher in this half alone (62%).

No goals to show for it though.

  18. CLOSE!published at 42 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Southampton

Jurgen Klopp claps his hands enthusiastically as Liverpool create a decent chance with some nice passing.

The ball ends up with Alberto Moreno on the left of the penalty area but, when a cool head is needed, he loses his and fires high and wide.

"He was totally unmarked and he should have done better. He should score really. Simon Mignolet made a fine save, but where were the Liverpool defenders? Southampton have looked to hit Liverpool on the counter attack."

    He has to score that.

Virgil van Dijk is given the freedom of Anfield as he attacks a Southampton free-kick but his header is very, very, weak and goalkeeper Simon Mignolet claws the ball wide.

From the resulting corner, van Dijk sends a lopping header across Mignolet but Lucas heads clear.

    Shoddy marking from the hosts.
