If you look at the average position graphic, it looks like Southampton (right) are playing very narrow. Davis, Mane and Tadic all taking up the space centrally.

"You can just feel the tension growing in the crowd at Anfield. Liverpool just need a goal to get them all back on side."

"Liverpool miss Daniel Sturridge dreadfully. If Christian Benteke is fit to be on the bench maybe he should start. He got 30 minutes the other night, but perhaps Jurgen Klopp is just easing him back slowly."

    Liverpool 0-0 Southampton

Southampton are almost in at the other end but, again, a bad touch is the downfall.

If Sadio Mane controls, he is in down the right channel but he doesn't and he isn't.

    Liverpool 0-0 Southampton

    A half chance for Liverpool.

Philippe Coutinho dinks a delicious little pass into Adam Lallana but, with his back to goal, his touch lets him down and the chance is gone.

    Liverpool 0-0 Southampton

James Milner weaves his way through the Southampton defence after a neat one-two with Adam Lallana on the edge of the penalty area. Milner strikes just wide and Jurgen Klopp raises his hands above his head to applaud.

More for the move than the shot I feel...

Surely playing in a green kit is a hindrance as players merge in with the pitch and makes seeing players harder?

As has been the theme in a lot of today's Premier League action, there isn't a lot going on.

    It will get better...

    Liverpool 0-0 Southampton

The longer this match goes on, the more dangerous Southampton look.

There is something very efficient about the Saints.

At the other end  Philippe Coutinho smashes the ball over the bar from 20 yards...

Liverpool are lucky there. Ryan Bertrand's cross from the left drops to Steven Davis inside the penalty area but his touch lets him down and he can only prod the ball back to goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Most of the offensive play has come from Liverpool - as shown in the heat maps below (Liverpool left).

Having said that goalkeeper Simon Mignolet almost makes a right hash of that as he mis controls a back-pass. He just about recovers it and clears.

  16. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Southampton

Liverpool have to be careful. There is plenty of passing and plenty of pressing going on but Southampton are showing they are capable of attacking very quickly. Sadio Mane is lurking with a menace...

"There's not a team in the world that can press like this for 90 minutes. They need goals to show for all that effort ultimately."

Better from Southampton as nice combination between Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle ends in the latter's goal-bound shot blocked from the edge of the penalty area.
