"At some point let's stop the fairy tale and start the real tale for Jamie Vardy. He will be the subject of interest from big clubs. He's quick and direct and improving. His runs are always intelligent and his finishing is accomplished."

"A lot of people will say that this is a bad time to take on Aston Villa, but I disagree. What has Remi Garde got to lose? Now's the time to assess who he's got in the squad, who is up for this relegation fight."

Aston Villa v Man City (13:30 GMT)

    Andy Dunn
    Sunday Mirror sports columnist

"It's an extremely significant team selection from Remi Garde. There are players we were led to believe by Tim Sherwood that were nowhere near ready to play. Do we now believe what we were told – that these players were too raw or inexperienced for the Premier League?"

    Top six

These two sides couldn't be any further apart. Well, they could if one got relegated but that would mean it wouldn't be a Premier League fixture.

Leaders Manchester City are top of the pile and looking in fine form. Manuel Pellegrini's side are unbeaten in four league games and plundered 26 goals - the most of any team in the division.

Aston Villa, on the other hand, are stuck to the bottom and won just once, back on the first day of the season.

A new manager is in, as he looks to arrest a run of seven straight defeats, so what better way to get going than against the top team?

"Jack Butland has been our player of the season, so consistent. He's only 22 and very young in goalkeeper terms. He has 18 years on me. He has a huge future and he's good competition for Joe Hart in the England team."

Bottom of the league and only one win all season, stick or twist?

Aston Villa chairman Randy Lerner decided to pull the trigger and in Sir Alan Sugar style, pointed the finger at Tim Sherwood and said, "you're fired".

In came former Arsenal defender Remi Garde on Monday, as he looks to preserve Villa's Premier League status.

He has been handed a three-and-a-half-year deal, but will he last that long? Garde takes charge of his first match today.

Our theme this morning has been about goalscoring runs and that takes us to Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian is on a brilliant run of his own against West Ham, having now netted in seven consecutive games against the Hammers.

His 43rd minute equaliser to cancel out Manuel Lanzini's superb opener meant Slaven Bilic's side could only claim a point, putting a slight dent in their excellent recent run.

Ronald Koeman's men are quietly going about their business. Who knew they were six games unbeaten in the league after victory over Sunderland?

They're seventh in the table, just four points off a Champions League spot, but they'll have to have a remarkable season to break in to the top four.

And Sunderland? They're going to need something similarly sensational to escape relegation this season.

Yes, Jamie Vardy's run of scoring in nine consecutive Premier League games is good. But we reckon there are tales, myths and heroes up and down the Sunday league pitches and six-a-side astroturfs of this fair land that are even more sublime.
