Manchester City will be relieved to go into the break ahead. It's been a feisty first half, which City have just edged.

After three goals and two efforts cleared off the line, I would expect more goals in this match in the second half.

Well that didn't take long! City are back in front thanks to Isobel Christiansen.

Eniola Aluko from distance lets rip. It flashes by the post.

That is just a glimpse of what she is capable of. The England forward takes that ball at pace and with just a glance and few touches she sends Sunderland an ominous message.

That's a big blow for City, who need to win to have any chance of winning the WSL1 title this evening.

With 37 minutes played, the WSL 1 title looks to be on its way into Chelsea hands.

Manchester City's 1-0 lead is not enough as Sunderland need to fight their back into this one to make things interesting.

  10. CLOSE!published at 18:39

Fran Kirby gets through after the ball bobbles into her path.

And while the England striker does everything right, she sends the ball just wide of the post. That was so nearly 2-0 and title decided for Chelsea.

Sunderland might end up being a footnote to Chelsea title today if things continue as they are, but they have been the year's surprise packet.

Their remarkable season in the top-flight after becoming the first team to win promotion from WSL 2 has not translated into individual recognition on the England senior front.

The Lady Black Cats, who for a long time were among the WSL 1 title contenders, finish the season without having a player officially picked by Lionesses boss Mark Sampson.

Beth Mead, the league's leading scorer with 12 goals to date, was invited to join England's training camp ahead of their Euro 2017 qualifier last month, but she is yet to be officially "called up".

Goalkeeper Mary Earps is the only player selected from relegated Bristol Academy this year.

"Chelsea boss Emma Hayes has adopted her usual position and pose on the touchline, standing next to the dugout, hands in pockets, surveying the scene.

"She will surely be delighted with what she has seen from her side so far. They are passing the ball around with purpose and confidence, and they lead."

Ji So-Yun bursts into the box and it looked on, but the South Korea international's attempt to bend it into the top corner is far too high and wide.

Gemma Davison then gets sight at goal and blazes over.

We have had 20 minutes played across the country now and as it stands, Chelsea's lead at Staines Town is enough to keep them ahead in this title race.

The tempo of this match has settled now, but the front four for Chelsea - Ji So-Yun, Eniola Aluko, Fran Kirby and Gemma Davison - are always probing.

Davison looks for Aluko, who found space in the box, but there was too much on the cross.
