England manager Roy Hodgson reflected on an emotional night at Wembley, saying: "It was a very poignant occasion.

"It was really everything I expected it to be. I thought the way the FA and the FFF set up the moments of remembrance was very well done."

He added: "I thought the players getting together after the minute's silence achieved all the things we wanted to achieve."

It was always going to be a difficult night for everyone, especially the French players and staff. For ourselves to be involved in this occasion was tough, the young players were excited but it was a difficult game for them. I thought both teams handled it extremely well. The fans were brilliant. This will be shown round the world and will show unity. Football is a global game and, as Didier Deschamps said yesterday, it is not about religion or race. We need to stand tall together in these tough times."

First of all we want to thank all the England people in the stadium for their respect. The performance was not there for us and we had a lack of aggressiveness and concentration. It was more about solidarity. Life is still going on so we need to carry on."

I think all the French people will be in agreement with me in thanking the people in Wembley for the superb tribute they have given us tonight. It was about being together, united in solidarity. We were all brothers tonight.

Abdulahi: Nice to see England play out from the back. Still lack a world class Number 10 to cut open the defence.

Antonio: Reckon Hodgson will have Pochetino's number on speed dial to find out who's next to join the England team.

Mark_Lynch: After these games & form this season & last, Dier should be ahead of Jones - can play in same positions & does it better.

France have turned up but you could see after 15 minutes they had switched off and England were the better side. There must be a lot going through the French players' heads.

The result doesn't matter. But England can take a lot of positives. The tempo was better, more like the Premier League. In comparison to Alicante on Friday, it is 10 times better

I think England have played well overall. They have moved the ball quickly. I will say, though, that when it comes to the Euros you will see a very different France.

Chris Lawton: England desperately need to find a dead ball specialist. So many wasted corners and free kicks tonight.

Will Pedley: Enjoying an England game tonight. Honest, attacking football from both teams.

England are on the back foot at the moment, losing the ball in that midfield area. And it is all down to Pogba. I would love to see him in the heart of any side. Such a talent, with great poise and technique. Dele Alli would love to emulate Pogba.
