Sometimes football can be a great release. You need something to deflect and distract you from those difficult times. Why not this evening?

Play is stopped momentarily as a huge banner is blown onto the pitch behind Jack Butland's goal. The strong wind, rather than anything else, is to blame and Butland helps a groundsman clear it away.

Billo: Cracking save by Butland. Perhaps our "golden generation" is going to be finally approaching over the next few years.

Ben Goodman: Great to see such a young England team tonight, think all of these guys deserve a chance at the Euros.

Jack Butland has been an exceptional keeper this season. He has made so many saves. He stood big then and made a superb save to prevent France scoring.

    England 2-0 France

I was just about to say that this friendly was starting to peter out in familiar fashion - but France nearly score! Paul Pogba turns it on with a brilliant backheel to send Anthony Martial in on goal, he gets the ball out of his feet but Jack Butland makes a sprawling save to keep him out. Excellent stop.

Raheem Sterling, Kieran Gibbs and Wayne Rooney link up with a really neat England attack but Paul Pogba tracks his man all the way back to cut the ball out on the edge of the area.

Minutes earlier Pogba had floated an effort on to the roof of Jack Butland's net from 20 yards.

This night must be so hard for France's players, who heard the sound of suicide bombers on Friday as they played out their friendly with Germany. Their triumph will not be in the result of this match, which is irrelevant, but showing the strength and spirit to be here.

Lassana Diarra is the epitome of that. He lost his cousin in the Paris attacks and received a standing ovation from sections of the England support when he came on as a substitute.

We have a lot of players with a lot of ability in this country. But how do they get the experience? The pathway from 18 to 21/22 is blocked for a lot of players. Alli was happy enough to play in League One and come through and even stay there on loan after signing for Tottenham

More changes for France as Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud and one-time Arsenal (among others) midfielder Lassana Diarra come on for France.

Wayne Rooney now has as many international goals (51) as Thierry Henry.

Henry does have a World Cup winners' medal though. And a European Championships one too.

How good are this France side? We should draw absolutely no conclusions from tonight of course. On paper it is arguably as good as any squad in Europe.

Danny Cheng: Kane last season, Alli this season, I wonder who Spurs have got for next season?

Denmark 0-1 Sweden (agg 1-3), Slovenia 1-0 Ukraine (agg 1-2)

Little under than half an hour (of normal time at least) in the final two Euro 2016 play-offs.

And, as it stood at half-time, Sweden and Ukraine are still set to clinch the last two spots at next summer's finals.

Denmark need two goals, without conceding, to force extra-time, while another Slovenia goal without reply will see that tie need another 30 minutes to separate the sides.

Harry Kane then hits a superb effort from 25 yards or so, wonderful hit which goes just wide!

Yet again, Dele Alli with a great challenge in the middle of the park. He has so much potential to go on to great things. He plays the ball simple and this time Sterling provides a cross for Wayne Rooney. He hits the target, which is the main thing, with a decent amount of power. Lloris might think he could have done better.

    Wayne Rooney

Another excellent goal from England - started again by Dele Alli with another quick turnover in midfield. He finds Raheem Sterling on the left, he stands up a cross to Wayne Rooney coming in from that station on the right. It's a difficult one to keep under control but he hits a volley hard and true, Hugo Lloris can't keep it out. Goal number 51.
