Congested in the midfield, the key to this game is down the flanks as Steve Claridge suggests. Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum are class players for Newcastle but Papiss Cisse is not matching their work-rate with a finish so far.

    Steve Claridge
BBC Radio 5 Live at White Hart Lane

"A good save from Rob Elliot but one you would expect him to make - it was a good height.

"They are physically very good, Tottenham. They've got pace down the flanks and all over the pitch are quick to get onto anything that's loose.

"Newcastle have to show a bit more ambition if they are to get back into this game."

Moussa Sissoko on the burst from the right, drives inside and slots a lovely ball through to Papiss Cisse, but his low effort is wide. That was a decent chance.

Little bit of afters as Newcastle right-back Daryl Janmaat and Spurs left-back Danny Rose come head to head. Newcastle attempting to get back into this by upping the energy levels. Georginio Wiljnaldum tries an overhead effort but it strike Toby Alderweireld.

Great break from Tottenham as Kyle Walker squares to Dele Alli, with the latter brought down by Vernon Anita in a very promising free-kick position.

So you collect the ball off a team-mate, shape to shoot, angle it towards the top corner and said team-mate gets in the way! That's how Papiss Cisse blocked Siem de Jong's effort for Newcastle. Spurs stopper Hugo Lloris was airborne.

    Tottenham 1-0 Newcastle

Is the scoreline a fair reflection of the game? With Spurs enjoying 11 shots on goal to Newcastle's two, you would have to say so. Steve McClaren's side are yet to hit the target so I presume Papiss Cisse blocking team-mate Siem de Jong's effort goes down as a blocked shot. Unfortunate.

Crisis over on the tea front by the way. One of my colleagues has obliged. You can rest easy now!

Our friends at Opta have a few stats for you to consume with your half-time brew. It was Tottenham's 10th goal from a set piece this season, the most in the Premier League. Christian Eriksen now has six assists, only Gerard Deulofeu (7) and Mesut Ozil (13) have more.
