"With 30 goals conceded – it’s obvious where Newcastle's problem is. Georginio Wijnaldum has been an excellent signing but their application is a worry.

"They’ve had so many false dawns where they've played well, and then in another game you wonder how bothered they are about winning or competing."

Former West Brom striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"I’m so impressed with Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino. The results are excellent but more so the identity he's put in place. That’s the exciting thing about them.

"Defensively they’re so solid. He’s added steel to the side and belief and with young English players, which is wonderful - the bravery to put Dele Alli in.

"When I first saw him and Eric Dier in midfield I thought what's going on. But the way they get around the pitch is so impressive.

"If Saido Berahino came in and added goals to supplement Harry Kane, where would they be?"

Both teams will be out to achieve significant milestones today.

After watching Manchester United lose at Bournemouth on Saturday, Tottenham can move into the top four with a win.

And buoyed by their superior graft against Liverpool, victory for Newcastle would mean they exit the bottom three.

    All to play for then?

  10. Team Newspublished at 15:38

    Tottenham v Newcastle (16:00 GMT)

Tottenham bring back the big guns after their 4-1 win over Monaco in the Europa League on Thursday. So Kyle Walker, Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose return to the defence, while Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane also come back in. Eric Dier is fit to play in midfield.

Newcastle are unchanged following their galvanising victory over Liverpool a week ago. Siem de Jong, who was crucial to packing the midfield in that game, will play behind Papiss Cisse while top scorer Georginio Wijnaldum will join the attack from the left.

  13. MOTD commentator's viewpublished at 15:33

    Spurs v Newcastle (16:00 GMT)

    Simon Brotherton
MOTD commentator at White Hart Lane

"Newcastle are aiming to win at White Hart Lane for the third season running, but it seems an unlikely outcome for a side with the joint-worst away record in the league.

"Having said that, who'd have thought they would beat Liverpool last weekend - certainly not me, having seen their awful performance athome to Leicester recently.

"Tottenham sailed past Monaco on Thursday in the Europa League to win their group and will look to solidify their strong league position over the next three games against sides in the bottom half, with Southampton and Norwich to come after this one."

  14. The evolution of McClarenpublished at 15:30

After being thumped 5-1 by Crystal Palace two weeks ago, and with games to come against Liverpool and Tottenham, it looked like a worrying couple of weeks for Steve McClaren's Newcastle team.

But last Sunday's surprise win over Jurgen Klopp's side has cast today's match in a different light and, according to McClaren, averted a crisis.

And the Toon army will travel to the big smoke with some confidence too.
