    Tottenham 1-0 Newcastle

    Steve Claridge
BBC Radio 5 Live at White Hart Lane

"Spurs haven't been that convincing but they have had much more of the play, as you would expect of the home side.

"We've not seen anything to suggest Newcastle will get back in it. Apart from that one chance blocked by Papiss Cisse, it's been a containment game."

  2. HALF TIMEpublished at 47 mins

Eric Dier's third goal of the season is the difference. As it stands Spurs are in the Premier League's top four.

  5. CLOSE!published at 44 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Newcastle

Should be 2-0. Tottenham get some space on the edge of the box, it's played wide to Danny Rose but he drags his shot wide of the far post with Harry Kane sliding in. That was a chance.

  6. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Newcastle

So what can Newcastle muster in response? Two minutes left until the break.

  7. Postpublished at 42 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Newcastle

Just looking at the replays again and Fabricio Coloccini completely lost Eric Dier at the corner. It's been a weekend for them.

    Tottenham 1-0 Newcastle

    Steve Claridge
BBC Radio 5 Live at White Hart Lane

"Steve McClaren seems to have disappeared. I think he went down the tunnel to have a look at the goal on the replay.

"I think Rob Elliot could have done a lot better with that. He palms the ball up. It's not a save, and it took the ball over the player who was defending on the line."

  9. goal

Goal - Tottenham 1-0 Newcastlepublished at 39 mins

    Eric Dier

But from the resulting corner Rob Elliot is finally beaten. Christian Eriksen's corner is played in and Eric Dier glances a header into the top corner which Elliot can only get a hand to on its way in. White Hart Lane erupts.

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

Another fine save from Rob Elliot and again it's from Erik Lamela. The Spurs winger is played in through the middle but Elliot stops his rising shot.

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

    Steve Claridge
BBC Radio 5 Live at White Hart Lane

"Tottenham have had most of their joy down the flanks (as can be seen by the average positions below), but the problem for them is Newcastle are defending very deeply, so even if Spurs do get in behind out wide, the away team are already set.

"Steve McClaren's side are keeping Spurs at arm's length, they're looking comfortable."

  12. CLOSE!published at 36 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

And it's hat-trick hero Erik Lamela who goes close. A curling effort is superbly saved by Rob Elliot. Best effort so far.

  13. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle boss Steve McClaren will be happy if this one remains goalless until half-time. His side have weathered the early storm and look compact in defence. But here are Spurs on the attack again.

  14. Postpublished at 33 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

Both Spurs full-backs are getting forward, as Danny Rose crosses into the middle but watches as Rob Elliot comes out to claim his centre. Down the other end Papiss Cisse heads wide from about 12 yards out. He had to strain his neck muscles to get that one goalwards.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 31 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

Tottenham might have been on an unbeaten run since the start of the season but their last two games have been 1-1 against West Brom and 0-0 at home to Chelsea. Jack Colback goes into the book as he brings down Kyle Walker.

  17. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

The referee Roger East has just taken a tumble and the fans are quick to praise his balance. Sort of!

  18. Nil-nil anyone?published at 28 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

Maybe mentioning this will urge the teams into finding the net? Spurs have had six shots to Newcastle's one but we have one shot on target in total.

  19. Postpublished at 26 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

Spurs are looking to break quickly but are held up by Jack Colback's handball. Not sure if it was intentional but it did the job. Vernon Anita now concedes another foul. Christian Eriksen takes the free-kick deep in the Newcastle half but it doesn't beat the first man.

  20. Postpublished at 25 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

Kyle Walker looks like he's right to carry on but he's limping. He'll have a nice bruise in the morning, I bet.
