  1. FT: Birmingham City 0-2 Wolves

That was what many would call a typical derby. Tense, frenetic and decided by a combination of defensive errors and special finishing.

Wolves will be hoping their win can kick-start their faltering season, and is the first time head coach Kenny Jackett has ever beaten Birmingham City in eight attempts in charge against them.

But for hosts Birmingham, who could have gone second before the 15:00 GMT kick-offs, that will be a bit of a sickener.

Thanks for following our live text coverage.

  2. Birmingham City 0-2 Wolves

Quote Message: It's been Wolves' afternoon. Mike Williamson made a tremendous difference to the Wolves back four. He organised and talked to people all the way through. That's what's been missing - someone to pull these good, young players around so they can keep their shape and be solid for the whole 90 minutes. from Mel Eves Ex-Wolves striker on BBC WM 95.6
Mel EvesEx-Wolves striker on BBC WM 95.6
  3. FT: Birmingham City 0-2 Wolves

Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards tells Sky Sports: "We battled it out with two good goals. It's a big win, wins like this can be a turning point and hopefully we can go on a run now.

"With the squad we've got we're capable of finishing in the top six."

  4. Birmingham City 0-2 Wolves

    Full time at Crawley too...

  5. FULL-TIME

    Birmingham City 0-2 Wolves

That's it - Kenny Jackett's Wolves have ended a run of three straight defeats in the Championship with victory over their rivals Birmingham City.

Meanwhile, that's a  blow to Birmingham City's promotion charge.

  6. Birmingham City 0-2 Wolves

Some Birmingham City fans came set for a Halloween party, dressed up in snazzy outfits ready for a victory over a side in the mid-table mire.

But their afternoon is summed up when Paul Robinson's punt into the area is caught easily by keeper Emiliano Martinez.

  7. Birmingham City 0-2 Wolves

Quote Message: It's been a solid performance from Wolves. Everyone of them has done a job. Blues have been disappointing. from Martin O'Connor Ex-Birmingham captain on BBC WM 95.6
Martin O'ConnorEx-Birmingham captain on BBC WM 95.6
  8. Birmingham City 0-2 Wolves

David Cotterill is trying to get some impetus into Birmingham's attacking play, but his cross is just too far in front of Nicolai Brock-Madsen.

The fourth official has just signalled five minutes of added time. Surely Birmingham can't salvage anything from this match?

  9. SUBSTITUTION

    Birmingham City 0-2 Wolves

To try to shore up things, Wolves bring off midfielder James Henry for defender Matt Doherty.

Just before that, Jon Toral has a strike blocked by a Wolves defence that has rarely looked like being breached today.

  10. Birmingham City 0-2 Wolves

Ojo has another chance moments later as he outsmuscles Paul Caddis, side-steps a challenge but his shot is quite wasteful.

You can audibly hear the Wolves fans right now; it's safe to say they are enjoying this.

  11. Birmingham City 0-2 Wolves

Quote Message: Ojo was excellent there. He cut in on his left foot and passed it in at the far post. Blues have had an off day and Wolves have taken advantage. from Mel Eves Ex-Wolves striker on BBC WM 95.6
Mel EvesEx-Wolves striker on BBC WM 95.6
  12. GOAL Birmingham City 0-2 Wolves (Ojo)

Wolves have doubled their lead, and again it has come from some pretty soft defending from Birmingham City.

The Blues aren't fully alert to a short corner and Sheyi Ojo, on loan from Liverpool, cuts inside the area and somehow manages to find space beyond a congested penalty area to find the corner of the net.

  13. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Meanwhile, we have a goal in League Two where Simon Walton has given Crawley a late lead against York from the penalty spot.

  14. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham's David Cotterill can often produce magic from free-kicks, but one straight in front of goal from 30 yards out is fired wide with no panic from Emiliano Martinez.

  15. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

    Ged Scott

    BBC Sport at St Andrew's

Quote Message: A week ago, Wolves could not hold onto a first-half lead given to them by Dave Edwards against Middlesbrough. This time, they look a better bet. Blues have huffed and puffed without really getting anywhere. And boss Gary Rowett may have had his last throw do the dice by sticking in big striker Nicolai Brock-Madsen to supplement Clayton Donaldson up front. Wolves' immediate response is to bring on Grant Holt. Looks like,The last 10 minutes or so could see a few high balls thrown in there.
  16. SUBSTITUTION

    Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Kenny Jackett has decided now is the time to give Grant Holt his Wolves debut, in place of Benik Afobe.

  17. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

We've got a little break in play as Birmingham's David Davis is down with an injury, and Danish forward Nicolai Brock-Madsen replaces the former Wolves man.

    Cotterill's corner isn't much better than Gray's...

  18. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

The atmosphere inside St Andrew's is one of fear that their run of form so far this season could be coming to an end. But Jon Toral wins Birmingham a corner, can they final make one of these set-pieces count?

David Cotterill has taken charge of the corner taking duites.

  19. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

By the way, it's still goalless in League Two between Crawley and York City. Ten minutes to go there.

  20. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Quote Message: Blues haven't been at their best today. The service to Clayton Donaldson hasn't been the best, they've been laboured and their end product has been poor. from Martin O'Connor Ex-Birmingham captain on BBC WM 95.6
Martin O'ConnorEx-Birmingham captain on BBC WM 95.6
  21. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

You can see exactly what Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett wants from his team today - control Birmingham City's pace with high pressing and then try to catch their opponents on the break.

They come close again when Scott Golbourne gets to the byline but his cross across the six-yard box is cut out.

Meanwhile, Jackett decides to bring on Sheyi Ojo in place of Nathan Byrne in what should be a like-for like change.

  22. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Quote Message: Birmingham can't afford to go too gung-ho as they search for an equaliser because they're leaving themselves open to the counter attack. from Martin O'Connor Ex-Birmingham captain on BBC WM 95.6
Martin O'ConnorEx-Birmingham captain on BBC WM 95.6
  23. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham City cannot handle Wolves' pressing so far today, and after David Cotterill loses the ball on the edge of the area, a sea of gold and black ride forward into the Blues half, but Benik Afobe is wasteful with a shot when he had men in support.

  24. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham City defender Paul Robinson is caught napping once more by Wolves, leading to an away corner, but both centre-halves Mike Williamson and Danny Batth - playing together for the first time - get in each others way and the ball goes wide.

  25. SUBSTITUTION

    Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham City need something from this match to keep the bragging rights in the blue part of the West Midlands and Gary Rowett brings on on-loan Arsenal man Jon Toral for Jacques Maghoma.

  26. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Quote Message: That was a great counter attack from Wolves and a fantastic save from Kuszczak because it was a deliberate side-foot into the top corner from McDonald which was going in all the way. from Mel Eves Ex-Wolves striker on BBC WM 95.6
Mel EvesEx-Wolves striker on BBC WM 95.6
  27. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham sub David Cotterill almost makes an immediate impact as he breaks through into the area and lays off to Jacques Maghoma when he could have shot himself, and the winger has a strike blocked.

Then Wolves go straight down the other end with a break-neck paced counter, but Tomasz Kuszczak keeps out Kevin McDonald's firecracker of a shot.

  28. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Wolves haven't been at the races so far this second half, but a neat little interchange between Kevin McDonald and Benik Afobe sees the England striker break into the box and under pressure from a defender he scuffs an effort wide of the mark.

  29. YELLOW CARD (McDonald)

    Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham City have a free-kick on the edge of the area as Kevin McDonald brings down Clayton Donaldson on the edge of the area unceremoniously and picks up a booking for his trouble.

David Cotterill comes on to the pitch in place of Maikel Kieftenfeld and immediately hits the ball straight into the wall.

  30. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

    Gary Rowett
Quote Message: It's been all Birmingham in the second half. Wolves haven't got into this game after the break at all. Gary Rowett must have told his players to get on the front foot. from Mel Eves Ex-Wolves striker on BBC WM 95.6
Mel EvesEx-Wolves striker on BBC WM 95.6
  31. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Demarai Gray has switched to the right-hand side, and is getting a lot more out of Scott Golbourne than he did from Dominic Iorfa.

The teenager's cross into the area is straight at the keeper, but it's more promising for Blues.

  32. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham City have been so wasteful from set-pieces, and after Mike Williamson climbs over Clayton Donaldson, Stephen Gleeson's free-kick is so poor, so long, and so easily cleared by Wolves.

  33. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham City are growing into this match, and Clayton Donaldson comes close to his fifth goal of the season, but he can only glance Paul Caddis's cross wide of the post.

  34. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Wolves goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has been forced into his first save of the match, but Jacques Maghoma's tame effort is easily held by the on-loan Arsenal man.

  35. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Gary Rowett keeps the faith with Demarai Gray on corner taking duty, and Clayton Donaldson almost made it into something with a near-post flick, but Wolves manage to clear the ball away.

  36. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

  37. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

    Stephen Gleeson

Both sides are unchanged and back out for the second half. Wolves get us back underway at St Andrew's for what promises to be another feisty period of football.

  38. Elsewhere in the Championship...

Later today in the Championship, leaders Brighton travel to seventh-placed Reading hoping to extend their unbeaten run to 10 matches.

The Seagulls will still be top come the end of the day whatever the result, but Hull and Burnley will both be hoping to keep up the pressure on them as they take on MK Dons and Huddersfield respectively.

At the other end bottom club Bolton take on fellow strugglers Preston in the late kick-off while Rotherham, under the stewardship of new manager Neil Redfearn, will be hoping to pull off a shock at Derby County.

  39. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

    Ged Scott

    BBC Sport at St Andrew's

Quote Message: It might be one of the great sporting cliches that form goes out of the window in a derby game, but Birmingham City's subdued fans are being well and truly reminded of it as they find themselves trailing at half-time. Wolves' opener might have been a bit shabby, as the result of a defensive mix-up, but the visitors are worth their lead. Coming off the back of three straight defeats, and lying nine places below Blues in the Championship table, this is the best Kenny Jackett's rejigged side have played in that time - and they have carried the greater attacking threat on the break. Blues boss Gary Rowett may need a rethink at half-time.
  40. Elsewhere in the Football League...

It's also half-time in League Two.

  41. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Obvious I know, but it's gone almost perfectly for Kenny Jackett and Wolves so far at St Andrew's today. Dave Edwards may have scuffed his effort, but quite frankly the away fans won't really care about that.

Birmingham City, riding high in the table, have barely threatened. Can their front three of Clayton Donaldson, Demarai Gray and Jacques Maghoma finally find their feet in the game and get them back into the match?

  42. HALF-TIME

Demarai Gray has a crack from outside the area with the seconds ticking down in the first half but it's deflected wide and his corner again is poor. You'd be surprised to see him back on them in the second period.

And the ref blows his whistle for half-time.

  43. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Wolves were almost caught out by Birmingham City there. David Davis is played through after a quickly taken free-kick, but cannot get his shot on target, and Emiliano Martinez sees the ball wide.

  44. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Demarai Gray has been rather wasteful with Birmingham City's corners so far, but Clayton Donaldson's clever flick does come close to levelling the scores.

Stephen Gleeson, who we have barely seen so far today, then has a wild shot from outside the area.

  45. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

It was a poor one from Birmingham City defender Paul Caddis - hitting the ball straight at the wall. You couldn't have asked for a better position.

  46. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham winger Jacques Maghoma has been causing Championship defences all sorts of problems this season, and he wins a free-kick in prime position on the edge of the area. What can Blues do with this?

  47. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Quote Message: Wolves have been the better team in the first 35 minutes. They look compact and they look a threat going forward. Birmingham need to play simple football, the football that's got them where they are in the league. from Martin O'Connor Ex-Birmingham captain on BBC WM 95.6
Martin O'ConnorEx-Birmingham captain on BBC WM 95.6
  48. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Wolves seem the more likely to add to the scoresheet on this evidence so far, and come close when Kevin MacDonald has a volley from outside the area, but doesn't connect with it properly.

  49. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

    Birmingham v Wolves

Birmingham City defenders were almost caught napping there, as they all put their hands up for what they felt was an offside on Dave Edwards. The linesman's flag stayed down and the Wales midfielder played in James Henry, who took his time but his low strike was easily held by Tomasz Kuszczak.

  50. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Quote Message: Everything is going ok for Wolves at the moment but Birmingham are going to have a spell when they are on top. from Mel Eves Ex-Wolves striker on BBC WM 96.6
Mel EvesEx-Wolves striker on BBC WM 96.6
  51. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Jacques Maghoma and Demarai Gray have swapped wings and the two have a neat little interchange, before the latter tries to run into the area but is blocked out by a Wolves defender.

  52. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

    Nathan Byrne

Wolves go pretty much straight down the other end and Nathan Byrne, who has looked impressive going forward already today, is allowed to run what seems like the length of a junction down the M6 motorway by the Birmingham defence before firing just wide of the mark.

  53. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham City have a corner on the right-hand side after some great skills from David Davis, but Demarai Gray's delivery is headed straight into the hands of Emiliano Martinez.

  54. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham City are finding it very hard to penetrate through a Wolves defence which has been bolstered by the signing of Mike Williamson.

Jacques Maghoma does have a chance to cross, but hits it far too long with players in the box.

  55. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham City are living on the edge, and a poor defensive header allows Nathan Byrne to break forward, but Benik Afobe can't hold his line and is offside when played through on goal.

  57. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham City need to get back into the game, and their fans scream for a penalty when Danny Baath and Clayton Donaldson tangle in the area, but the referee is not interested and waves play on.

  58. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Goodness me, that was almost another blunder from Birmingham City's defence.

A completely harmless cross into the box comes in from the right, but Paul Robinson and Tomasz Kuszczak are clearly not talking to each other, and the ball nearly bounces into the back of the net.

After their decent start, Birmingham are looking a little ropey.

  59. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Quote Message: Birmingham have made a big error there in letting the ball bounce and Dave Edwards has taken advantage of that. That will give Wolves confidence - now it's about how they react because they were also ahead here last season. from Mel Eves Ex-Wolves striker on BBC WM 95.6
Mel EvesEx-Wolves striker on BBC WM 95.6
  60. GOAL Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves (Edwards)

    Dave Edwards

On Halloween, the defending for Wolves' opener will give Birmingham City fans nightmares.

Blues captain Paul Robinson allows a lofted ball into the box to bounce over him, and after Tomasz Kuszczak saves Benik Afobe's initial effort, Wales international Dave Edwards is on hand to slide the ball home past two covering defenders.

  61. Birmingham City 0-0 Wolves

There's another early kick-off today in League Two, with Crawley hosting York City.

They're 12 minutes in there and it's also goalless.

  62. Birmingham City 0-0 Wolves

Birmingham City winger Demarai Gray v Wolves defender Dominic Iorfa down Blues' left will be a fascinating match up today.

The Blues man gets past a Wolves midfielder with ease, but England Under-21 international Iorfa does just enough to stop a cross coming in.

  63. Birmingham City 0-0 Wolves

First real opening of the game goes to Wolves, as Conor Coady picks up on a loose ball and tries to find Benik Afobe, but the ball is cut out before Coady has a shot which is deflected wide.

From the resultant corner, Mike Williamson heads over the bar.

  64. Birmingham City 0-0 Wolves

    Ged Scott

    BBC Sport at St Andrew's

Quote Message: A minute's silence to remember the fallen at St Andrew's, thankfully a lot better observed than the one which preceded last season's corresponding fixture between these two sides at Molineux. That was the prelude to a goalless draw of almost mind-numbing dreariness. A year ago, it was Blues boss Gary Rowett's first game in charge following an 8-0 record home hammering the previous week - and the need to shore up the defence was paramount. This time it is roles reversed, with Blues riding high and Wolves faltering - and it is the visitors who would probably most welcome a nice, dull stalemate.
  65. Birmingham City 0-0 Wolves

Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett has never beaten Birmingham City in seven previous attempts in charge against them, and his side are on the backfoot in the opening stages.

Birmingham City look very comfortable on the ball, especially Maikel Kieftenbeld roaming forward from midfield.

  66. Birmingham City 0-0 Wolves

Birmingham City are straight on the front foot, pressing Wolves down the right, but Paul Caddis can't get enough on his cross and it is cleared away to safety.

  67. Birmingham City 0-0 Wolves

After an impeccably held silence, the fans let out a roar in support of their respective teams.

Birmingham City get us under way in this West Midlands derby.

Quote Message: I think there will be goals. Unfortunately for Wolves, they come into the game having conceded nine goals in their last three games and I don't think one man (Mike Williamson) will make that big a difference. With Blues at home, and with the form they are in, then there are goals in their side. from Martin O'Connor Ex-Birmingham captain on BBC WM 95.6

Wolves have a familiar face on the bench today - striker Grant Holt after he moved to Molineux on loan from Wigan late on Friday night.

  75. Wolves hunting for win

Birmingham City v Wolves (12:30 GMT)

    Wolves fan

Wolves have had a very different tale of events since last November's draw against the Blues.

Kenny Jackett's side went top of the table for a few hours but a slump in form eventually saw them miss out on a play-off place on the final day of 2014-15 on goal difference.

Wanderers have had an indifferent start in the Championship this campaign, lying in 15th having lost their last three matches.

But, as football's book of cliche tells you, on derby days previous results can be discarded like a handkerchief that's been in your pocket a little too long.

  76. Rowett reigning

Birmingham City v Wolves (12:30 GMT)

    Gary Rowett

For Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett, today's match represents one year in charge at St Andrew's, having taken over with the club 23rd in the Championship.

His first game as Blues boss - a hum-dinger of a 0-0 draw against today's opponents Wolves at Molineux.

Since then Rowett has overseen a remarkable turnaround, saving them from relegation last term and now they are sitting pretty in the dizzy heights of sixth and on a run of four wins from five.

To find out how he's managed it, read Ged Scott's rather nice feature here.

  77. Just a normal Saturday?

    Birmingham v Wolves

"Blood and thunder". "Play the game, not the occasion". "Form goes out the window". "Neither side wants to lose". "It's just another game".

Coverage of derby days is awash with cliches trying to convey or play down just how much the match actually means.

But for the fans, it's all about knowing they can walk into work or the pub with their smugness levels at an all-time high when they see a rival supporter.
