Birmingham can't afford to go too gung-ho as they search for an equaliser because they're leaving themselves open to the counter attack.

  2. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolvespublished at 70 mins

Birmingham City cannot handle Wolves' pressing so far today, and after David Cotterill loses the ball on the edge of the area, a sea of gold and black ride forward into the Blues half, but Benik Afobe is wasteful with a shot when he had men in support.

  3. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolvespublished at 69 mins

Birmingham City defender Paul Robinson is caught napping once more by Wolves, leading to an away corner, but both centre-halves Mike Williamson and Danny Batth - playing together for the first time - get in each others way and the ball goes wide.

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 66 mins

    Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham City need something from this match to keep the bragging rights in the blue part of the West Midlands and Gary Rowett brings on on-loan Arsenal man Jon Toral for Jacques Maghoma.

That was a great counter attack from Wolves and a fantastic save from Kuszczak because it was a deliberate side-foot into the top corner from McDonald which was going in all the way.

  6. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolvespublished at 63 mins

Birmingham sub David Cotterill almost makes an immediate impact as he breaks through into the area and lays off to Jacques Maghoma when he could have shot himself, and the winger has a strike blocked.

Then Wolves go straight down the other end with a break-neck paced counter, but Tomasz Kuszczak keeps out Kevin McDonald's firecracker of a shot.

  7. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolvespublished at 60 mins

Wolves haven't been at the races so far this second half, but a neat little interchange between Kevin McDonald and Benik Afobe sees the England striker break into the box and under pressure from a defender he scuffs an effort wide of the mark.

  8. YELLOW CARD (McDonald)published at 58 mins

    Birmingham City 0-1 Wolves

Birmingham City have a free-kick on the edge of the area as Kevin McDonald brings down Clayton Donaldson on the edge of the area unceremoniously and picks up a booking for his trouble.

David Cotterill comes on to the pitch in place of Maikel Kieftenfeld and immediately hits the ball straight into the wall.

It's been all Birmingham in the second half. Wolves haven't got into this game after the break at all. Gary Rowett must have told his players to get on the front foot.

  10. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolvespublished at 56 mins

Demarai Gray has switched to the right-hand side, and is getting a lot more out of Scott Golbourne than he did from Dominic Iorfa.

The teenager's cross into the area is straight at the keeper, but it's more promising for Blues.

  11. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolvespublished at 55 mins

Birmingham City have been so wasteful from set-pieces, and after Mike Williamson climbs over Clayton Donaldson, Stephen Gleeson's free-kick is so poor, so long, and so easily cleared by Wolves.

  12. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolvespublished at 51 mins

Birmingham City are growing into this match, and Clayton Donaldson comes close to his fifth goal of the season, but he can only glance Paul Caddis's cross wide of the post.

  13. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolvespublished at 49 mins

Wolves goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has been forced into his first save of the match, but Jacques Maghoma's tame effort is easily held by the on-loan Arsenal man.

  14. Birmingham City 0-1 Wolvespublished at 48 mins

Gary Rowett keeps the faith with Demarai Gray on corner taking duty, and Clayton Donaldson almost made it into something with a near-post flick, but Wolves manage to clear the ball away.

Both sides are unchanged and back out for the second half. Wolves get us back underway at St Andrew's for what promises to be another feisty period of football.

Later today in the Championship, leaders Brighton travel to seventh-placed Reading hoping to extend their unbeaten run to 10 matches.

The Seagulls will still be top come the end of the day whatever the result, but Hull and Burnley will both be hoping to keep up the pressure on them as they take on MK Dons and Huddersfield respectively.

At the other end bottom club Bolton take on fellow strugglers Preston in the late kick-off while Rotherham, under the stewardship of new manager Neil Redfearn, will be hoping to pull off a shock at Derby County.

It might be one of the great sporting cliches that form goes out of the window in a derby game, but Birmingham City's subdued fans are being well and truly reminded of it as they find themselves trailing at half-time. Wolves' opener might have been a bit shabby, as the result of a defensive mix-up, but the visitors are worth their lead. Coming off the back of three straight defeats, and lying nine places below Blues in the Championship table, this is the best Kenny Jackett's rejigged side have played in that time - and they have carried the greater attacking threat on the break. Blues boss Gary Rowett may need a rethink at half-time.

It's also half-time in League Two.

Obvious I know, but it's gone almost perfectly for Kenny Jackett and Wolves so far at St Andrew's today. Dave Edwards may have scuffed his effort, but quite frankly the away fans won't really care about that.

Birmingham City, riding high in the table, have barely threatened. Can their front three of Clayton Donaldson, Demarai Gray and Jacques Maghoma finally find their feet in the game and get them back into the match?
