  1. Post update

That is all from me for today.

Thanks for your company and have a good evening.

Everton fans will be dreaming good dreams tonight,

  2. Post update

A reminder from Gary there there is still 90 minutes to go...

All to play for is the cliche, it could never be more apt.

  3. Post update

    Everton 2-1 Manchester City

A tweet from Manchester City after Everton's second goal.

I'm not sure many City fans would "take" a 2-1 defeat...

  4. Post update

    Everton 2-1 Manchester City

Who are the favourites then to reach the League Cup final?

Liverpool will fancy their chances after beating Stoke 1-0 in the Potteries, while Everton take a slender 2-1 advantage to Manchester City.

It would take a brave man to call these.

  7. Lukaku wants to be "the best"

    Everton 2-1 Manchester City

Everton boss Roberto Martinez on Sky Sports:

"Goodison Park was rocking The character we showed was incredible. We had to cope with losing Tom Cleverly and Lukaku got a knock and we finished with 10 men. The reaction after conceding was excellent.

"It means nothing. It is the first leg we had to win and now we prepare for a very interesting second leg.

"The first goal was a terrific delivery from the corner and we reacted quicker to the second ball. The goal was coming, we had a strong period.

"For spells we played with real confidence. The stats are there to back any assessment of Lukaku, from our point of view he has always been the perfect striker for our football club. He is a young boy, he wants to be the best in the world."

  8. Pellegrini fuming

    Everton 2-1 Manchester City

Manuel Pellegrini is not a very happy man on Sky Sports. Was Romelu Lukaku offside for Everton's opener?

"He is offside for the goal," said the City boss. Unbelievable the referee or linesman did not give offside.

"Also it was a clear penalty for Jesus Navas - they were two very important decisions. It is a foul inside the box, A clear penalty.

"It was important to level at the moment we did, we were playing better, but Lukaku is a great striker and scored a great header.

"They scored a goal that was absolutely offside and in the second half we had a clear penalty. We have just played 90 minutes and it was very important not to concede another goal."

  9. Player reaction

    Everton 2-1 Manchster City

Everton midfielder Gareth Barry on Sky Sports: "We needed to use our crowd as our advantage and we did that. We have been scoring a lot of goals and we go there knowing we probably need to score a goal. We have to have a positive attitude going there."

Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori: "The team did a great job. When we had to defend, we defend, when we had to go forward we were great offensively. 2-1 is good for us, we hope to keep it up."

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Plenty of discussion on the football social right now....

Among the talking points - Everton fans - will you accept a trophy instead of finishing in the top four? Will Man City's poor away form cost them dear this season?JOE asks: "What has happening to Yaya Toure?! - he's having a stinker AGAIN!"

But OONA says: "He is, hands down, the best player City have EVER had"

Andy McNamara: I wasn't nervous at all apart from the first 10 minutes. A great professional performance. Besic and Barry bossed things.

Rob Meech: I don't think anyone looks as comfortable on the ball as Ross Barkley does.

Allan Abbas: No wonder he is called Stones, the boy is really a stone.

Is that a good thing Allan?

  12. "3-1 would've been fairer"

    Everton 2-1 Manchester City

    Danny Mills

BBC Radio 5 live at Goodison Park

"Everton soaked up pressure in the first 15-20 minutes, they sat back like they did against Tottenham on the weekend, and as they grew in confidence and got their ball-players on the ball they created the better half-chances.

"Everton shaded it, played the better and more attacking football, they perhaps should have scored maybe three goals – 3-1 would maybe have been a fairer result.

"Everton now have something to defend in the second leg."

  13. Post update

    FT: Everton 2-1 Manchester City

Everton will be slightly disappointed they don't have a bigger lead.

Aside from a dodgy opening 15 minutes, they bossed that first leg.

    A Merseyside final at Wembley?

Stoke and Manchester City will have plenty to say about that.

  14. FULL-TIME

    Everton 2-1 Manchester City

    Peep Peep.

Everton have a foot in the League Cup final.

It is only a small foot though, maybe a toe.

Manchester City, due to their away goal, would go through with a 1-0 win after extra time in the second leg.

    All to play for.

    Everton 2-1 Manchester City

Ole's from the crowd as Everton keep the ball.

Four minutes of injury time signalled.

Fernando is on for Kevin de Bruyne. Strange one that.

Can City take advantage of their numerical advantage? Maybe Manuel Pellegrini is happy with 2-1.
