Villa defender Aly Cissokho - who spent the first half of this season on the FC Porto bench - lines up a shot from 30 yards but it's straight at Kasper Schmeichel.

That Riyad Mahrez miss is making this look a little more important suddenly. Not for the first time this season, Jamie Vardy's willing running made a long ball into something and his lob allowed Shinji Okazaki to score.

Jimmy Smallwood: How can that be a booking? If it was a deliberate handball then it was a red card for denying the goal. Madness.

Kurt Booth: Good to see 'Backup Bunn' is getting a run of first team action, shame it's for the worst team Villa have had in years.

Gregory Mandapat: That was not a deliberate handball by Cissokho. How else is he supposed to protect himself while diving to block the shot?

After scoring all four Premier League penalties before the new year in 2015-16, Riyad Mahrez has now missed both of his penalties since New Year's Day (the other on 2 January v Bournemouth).

Ash Williams:That penalty save will not save Villa. It's just prolonging the inevitable

JavelBleach: Peno missed! Justice. Cissokho's arm was protecting his face, in front not to the side.

Jay: That's two penalties Mahrez has missed now. Why isn't Vardy taking these?

David Robinson: Lazy arrogance in that penalty from Mahrez. Deserved to miss.

"The penalty save is the biggest cheer the home fans have had all day!

"Mahrez could pretty much have put this game to bed but he hasn't. The next time Leicester have a penalty I think it's Jamie Vardy's."

Leicester City have won nine penalties in the league so far this season, five more than anyone else.

  9. PENALTY SAVEDpublished at 33 mins

Drama at Villa Park. Riyad Mahrez steps up to take the penalty kick but it's straight down the middle and Mark Bunn saves it with his feet.

    Villa are still in this.

Riyad Mahrez shoots at goal and Aly Cissokho - with his hands up in the air - saves the ball basically. Yellow card too.

"A goal out of absolutely nowhere. You have to be on your toes when Jamie Vardy is in town!

"It was a superb first-time effort, trying to lob the keeper Bunn. It was a great save but Okasaki was onto it in a flash. I thought he was a bit lackadaisical with his finish but the referee got the nod in his earpiece.

"Goal, 1-0 to Leicester, and they're good for it."

    GOAL-LINE TECHNOLOGY SAYS... GOAL

So unlucky Mark Bunn. The Villa keeper is pedalling back as Leicester play a long ball forward and he does brilliantly to claw Jamie Vardy's header out just before it crosses the line.

The ball lands to Shinji Okazaki and Bunn again makes a save...

But he was behind the line by a few inches when he got the ball and the referee's watch flashes for a goal.

Look after the ball like a friend. Not here.

These two sides are turning the thing over at a feverish pace. After 25 minutes, both have attempted 111 passes. Villa completing just 67%, Leicester 66%.

Most teams keep the average up a lot higher. It's ugly out there,

Genoa are interested in the 26-year-old Czech striker, according to the Italian media.

  18. Get it wide lads...published at 21 mins

    Aston Villa 0-0 Leicester

Leicester City do like to get the ball wide, as the early exchanges are showing. Marc Albrighton down the left is an outlet as always, Riyad Mahrez on the right likewise.

Leicester defender Robert Huth makes a mistake and Libor Kozak is in - he probably should score but Kasper Schmeichel makes a good save from his first effort and his follow-up pass is nowhere near Carles Gil.

A huge opportunity wasted. In Villa's situation they need to take a chance when it comes.

Marc Albrighton puts in a cross from the left and Joleon Lescott heads it out for a corner. Leicester are definitely on top now.

Villa fans give their ex-winger a round of applause when he goes to take the corner.
