    Steve Bower
    Match of the Day commentator

"Neither of these sides are where they wanted or expected to be at this stage of the season.

"Everton's inability to close out victories has cost them dearly. I watched their 11th draw of the season last weekend at Chelsea. If close to half of those draws had been wins, they would be right in the European hunt.

"Swansea badly needed Monday's victory over Watford and now it will be fascinating to see how they try and move forward under Francesco Guidolin.

"The Italian will be aware they need more of a goal threat as he experiences English football for the first time. If he can lead his new club to their first ever league win over Everton, he'll really get people believing."

"It smells a bit that way. I think they feel Alan Curtis needs a bit more help. He has done okay since taking over and got a massive win against Watford on Monday night.

"No one knows a lot about this guy. His record at Udinese is okay. What his role will be is to galvanise the players, introduce a new system and help Alan Curtis."

Swansea are teetering above the relegation zone, just one point outside of it and have won just five league games this term.

Garry Monk got the chop and Alan Curtis was given the job until the end of the season, but then brought in Italian boss Francesco Guidolin who has the last decision on team selection.

    What a mess.

They did earn their first win in four league games on Monday against Watford and only their second in 12 attempts. Another win in Guidolin's first game is much needed.

Francesco Guidolin seems like a hands on type boss, he's currently on the pitch at Goodison Park keeping a close eye as the Swansea players go through their warm up routine.

It looks like he's raided the club shop too, kitted out in their official gear from top to bottom.

"Everton are a good side, they play lovely attractive football but they do have problems conceding.

"They need to know how to finish games and sew them up. There needs to be a game plan and the centre-halves need assistance."

    Matt Elliott

“Francesco Guidolin needs to make an impact, It is difficult for a foreign coach to come in and make that impact so quickly. It is a similar situation at Aston Villa, where Remi Garde needed to change things straight away and that has not happened. There is not a bedding in process.

"I don't think the Swansea players have that relegation dogfight mentality. I fear for them."

Everton make two changes from the team that drew 3-3 at Chelsea. Phil Jagielka is not fully fit so Ramiro Funes Mori starts in defence. Winger Gerard Deulofeu replaces Aaron Lennon.

Everton XI: Howard, Baines, Stones, Funes Mori, Oviedo, Barry, Besic, Mirallas, Barkley, Deulofeu, Lukaku.

Francesco Guidolin makes just one change to the Swansea side for his first game in charge. Angel Rangel comes in to defence for Kyle Naughton, who drops to the bench.

Swansea XI: Fabianski, Rangel, Fernandez, Williams, Taylor, Britton, Cork, Ki, Sigurdsson, Routledge, Ayew.

Former Leicester City captain on MOTD2 Extra

One of today's papers has suggested that Jose Mourinho has written a six-page "love letter" to Manchester United to convince them to hire him as manager...

"It is not Mourinho's style. They might out a dossier together in preparation of being considered for the job. Someone has obviously got a sniff of it.

"Even Mourinho would have to go for an interview."

One in every five shots from Everton ends up in the back of the net and they have striker Romelu Lukaku to thank for the majority of those, with the Belgian netting a total of 19 goals so far this term.

However, the Toffees have conceded 32 goals in 22 games in the Premier League, which has cost them dearly.

For a club with European aspirations, 12th in the table is well below expectations. They can climb to 10th with victory today.

"The booing affects players, all of a sudden in the midst of a game other things come into play and that mindset kicks in where if you make mistakes then they will boo louder, once you do that you are in trouble.

"They call it the Theatre of Dreams, well it is like going to the theatre, it is quiet then there is a ripple of applause."

Smile boys, you're making some progress, although Aston Villa are still rooted to the bottom of the table, nine points away from safety.

The only side to stay up with 13 points at this stage were opponents West Brom in 2004-05.

The biggest of big asks for Villa.

Pyrotechnics off the pitch, but not a single sparkler on it.

West Brom didn't have a shot on target, Aston Villa rarely threatened.

Let's not dwell on this one for too long. As far as 0-0s go, this was one of the worst.
