  1. 'Exeter causing problems from the wings'published at 20:28 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2016

    Exeter 1-1 Liverpool

    Danny Murphy
    Ex-Liverpool midfielder on BBC One

"It's crosses in the box causing problems. I'm not sure if David Noble's claiming a penalty for a late lunge. It was another positive move down that left-hand side for Exeter."

  2. CLOSE!published at 27 mins

    Exeter 1-1 Liverpool

    A massive chance.

St James Park holds its breath as Christian Ribeiro's low cross breaks into the path of David Noble 10 yards out.

The Exeter midfielder blazes over the top and maybe the lunging Connor Randall did just enough to put him off.

    Exeter 1-1 Liverpool

Nothing fancy about that Exeter free-kick delivery - but it is more effective than Liverpool's earlier effort.

Craig Woodman hoofs into the night sky and Jordan Moore-Taylor rises highest to claim the header in the box.

He can't get over the top of it though and it is over the hoardings and harmlessly behind Adam Bogdan's goal.

  4. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Exeter 1-1 Liverpool

Liverpool look set to hoist the ball to the back post for Christian Benteke to attack from a free-kick out on the right.

Instead they go short. Connor Randall makes up for a shoddy first touch as he darts past the first defender who comes to close him down.

His driven cross-shot drifts dangerously across the face of goal but is out for a goal-kick.

Liverpool are passing and probing. Exeter are pinned back on the edge of their own box.

It is a like an attack v defence drill.

  6. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Exeter 1-1 Liverpool

Liverpool are pressing forward down the left with Brad Smith bombing on from full-back.

That looks like a fruitful avenue for the Reds to pursue.

Jordan Tillson wastes a chance to ease the pressure on the hosts, booting a pass hopelessly long when he had more time in midfield.

    Exeter 1-1 Liverpool

Liverpool have their tails up now.

Joao Teixiera takes a pass from Ryan Kent, feints to return the ball and instead cuts inside his man and shoots goalwards from the edge of the box.

Deflection and behind for a corner.

  9. 'Sinclair produced a calm finish'published at 20:12 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2016

    Exeter 1-1 Liverpool

    Danny Murphy
    Ex-Liverpool midfielder on BBC One

"It's a bit of a lucky goal. It was sixes and sevens. Nobody was demanding the ball. It was a calm finish by Jerome Sinclair."

  10. Postpublished at 20:12 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2016

    Exeter 1-1 Liverpool

    John Hartson
Former Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"A mistake from Exeter in their own penalty box. A big, big mix-up but take nothing away from Sinclair's finish. He pounced on it. A fantastic reaction from going behind."

After some top-flight finishing comes some distinctly League Two defending.

No-one takes command at the back for Exeter and as the ball bobbles to Jerome Sinclair the youngster keeps his cool to slide a side-foot finish low past goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik and into the bottom corner.

"Jamie Reid put in a super ball across the box and it was a strong finish by Nichols with his weaker foot."

"What a great finish by Tom Nichols, I have to say. He arrived perfectly in the box and the ball into the box was inch perfect. What a start by Exeter."

Holy moly. We have a tie and a half now.

Exeter's first serious attack and it is a clinical smash-and-grab raid on the Liverpool penalty area.

Jamie Reid gets down the right flank and sends a low cross skimming in behind a backpedalling Liverpool defence.

Tiago Llori cannot reach it. Jose Enrique cannot reach it. Tom Nichols - on the strech - can.

His toe-poke effort worms its way into the corner past a diving Adam Bogdan.

  16. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Exeter 0-0 Liverpool

Joao Teixeira is showing up well for this youthful Liverpool side.

The Portuguese, formerly of Sporting Lisbon, has had some tidy touches and almost plays in Christian Benteke.

  17. Postpublished at 20:02 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2016

    Exeter 0-0 Liverpool

    John Hartson
Former Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"This will be the Exeter players' cup final. That is how they will treat it and they have started this well."

  18. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Exeter 0-0 Liverpool

Jamie Reid gets past Connor Randall and sends a cross winging in from the left flank.

That is right down the throat of Adam Bogdan though with Tom Nichols and David Noble lurking with intent.

Bright and busy start from both sides.
