A massive chance. 

St James Park holds its breath as Christian Ribeiro's low cross breaks into the path of David Noble 10 yards out. 

The Exeter midfielder blazes over the top and maybe the lunging Connor Randall did just enough to put him off.

Nothing fancy about that Exeter free-kick delivery - but it is more effective than Liverpool's earlier effort.

Craig Woodman hoofs into the night sky and Jordan Moore-Taylor rises highest to claim the header in the box.

He can't get over the top of it though and it is over the hoardings and harmlessly behind Adam Bogdan's goal.

Liverpool look set to hoist the ball to the back post for Christian Benteke to attack from a free-kick out on the right.

Instead they go short. Connor Randall makes up for a shoddy first touch as he darts past the first defender who comes to close him down.

His driven cross-shot drifts dangerously across the face of goal but is out for a goal-kick.

Liverpool are passing and probing. Exeter are pinned back on the edge of their own box.

It is a like an attack v defence drill.

Liverpool are pressing forward down the left with Brad Smith bombing on from full-back.

That looks like a fruitful avenue for the Reds to pursue.

Jordan Tillson wastes a chance to ease the pressure on the hosts, booting a pass hopelessly long when he had more time in midfield.

Liverpool have their tails up now.

Joao Teixiera takes a pass from Ryan Kent, feints to return the ball and instead cuts inside his man and shoots goalwards from the edge of the box.

Deflection and behind for a corner.

After some top-flight finishing comes some distinctly League Two defending.

No-one takes command at the back for Exeter and as the ball bobbles to Jerome Sinclair the youngster keeps his cool to slide a side-foot finish low past goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik and into the bottom corner.
