It's no wonder former Leeds boss Simon Grayson and assistant Steve Thompson, who spent time with the Elland Road side last season, are looking so pensive.

That was exactly the start to the half they were hoping to avoid. The 10 men are going to have to find a goal from somewhere if they're to return to Lancashire with anything to show for their efforts.

  2. Reading 1-0 Blackburnpublished at 16:10

Danny Williams fancies himself with just about every sight at goal.

Again, from distance he tests Blackburn goalkeeper Jason Steele low down and it takes more work from Shane Duffy to extinguish the danger.

  3. KICK-OFFpublished at 16:06

    Reading 1-0 Blackburn

We are back under way and Reading make a half-time change with Matej Vydra replaced by Lucas Piazon.

A dream start to the second half for Leeds against 10-man Preston.

Stuart Dallas sends a cross in looking for striker Chris Wood but it's visiting defenderAlan Brownewho has headed into his own net.

  5. HT: Reading 1-0 Blackburnpublished at 16:02

This one at the Madejski Stadium has plenty of layers to it.

Not only has Danny Williams given Brian McDermott the ideal start to his second spell in charge of Reading with a bit of a wonder goal against Blackburn, but as it stands it is almost 30 years since the Royals last beat Rovers the league.

That came in October 1986, 11 league games, four losses and seven draws ago.

    Sheff Weds 4-1 Wolves

    Sheff WedImage source, PA

A terrific turnaround from Sheffield Wednesday.

They trailed to a Benik Afobe penalty but a double from Fernando Forestieri, the first from the spot, followed by second-half goals from Daniel Pudil and Gary Hooper sees them move up to seventh in the Championship.

Wolves have now won just one of their last eight games and this will not be a merry Christmas for boss Kenny Jackett.

Preston keeper Jordan Pickford was shown a red card after 30 minutes for handling outside the area under pressure from Leeds striker Chris Wood.

Pickford has been replaced by 17-year-old Matt Hudson, who has got Preston through to half-time level.

  9. goal

    GOAL (Hooper)published at 15:53

    Sheff Weds 4-1 Wolves

Wolves lose possession cheaply and Gary Hooper wraps up the three points after fine work from sub Atdhe Nuhiu.

The hosts will spend Christmas just one point and one place outside the Championship's top six while Wolves remain in 17th.

  10. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:50

    Reading 1-0 Blackburn

Danny Williams celebrates his goal with Reading team-matesImage source, Empics

Reading lead Blackburn 1-0 at the Madejski Stadium, and the goal from Danny Williams is all that everyone is talking about.

Take your pick of superlatives to use for describing the strike. From out wide, and nothing really looking on for midfielder just outside the area, he allows the ball to bounce twice as he composes himself to lash the ball home inside the par post and beyond Jason Steele.

  11. Sheff Weds 3-1 Wolvespublished at 15:47

There'll be no hat-trick for Fernando Forestieri today as he's replaced by Atdhe Nuhiu.

Into the final 10 minutes now and Wolves are going to need something special if they're to return to the West Midlands with any points.

  12. Reading 1-0 Blackburnpublished at 15:46

    Adam Williams

As we approach half-time, one thing I can certainly dispel this afternoon is all this talk of a mild December.

It still feels like mid-winter here. My gloves are on and I'm now regretting leaving the hat and scarf in the car. Wonder how many others in the crowd have done the same?

  13. Reading 1-0 Blackburnpublished at 15:45

Hope Akpan threatening for Blackburn with a fierce effort from 25 yards.

Reading goalkeeper Jonathan Bond deals with it... just, as Chris Gunter is needed to mop up the danger with five minutes remaining of the first half.

  14. Sheff Weds 3-1 Wolvespublished at 15:41

Heading into the last 12 minutes at Hillsborough and Wolves still need two goals to rescue a point.

The hosts are firmly on top and Fernando Forestieri remains on the park as he looks for his hat-trick goal.

  15. Leeds 0-0 Prestonpublished at 15:37

Leeds defender Giuseppe Bellusci hammers the free-kick just over the crossbar.

Just some context on the man now between the sticks for Preston. Matt Hudson was born after the 1998 World Cup final... So... There's that.

Little to shout about since Danny Williams' thunderbolt, other than some badly-timed challenges by Blackburn.

Both former Royals midfielder Hope Akpan and central defender Shane Duffy have gone into the referees notebook.

Ben Marshall, meanwhile, was a long way off target with a free-kick from 25 yards out.

Preston goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is sent off for handling outside the area.

It means a senior debut for 17-year-old Matt Hudson, who was a late addition to Preston's bench this afternoon...

Leeds just starting to get more into this now.

Midfielder Liam Bridcutt sees his deflected effort go just past the Preston post.

  19. goal

    GOAL (Pudil)published at 15:22

    Sheff Weds 3-1 Wolves

Hard to see Wolves coming back now.

Midfielder Barry Bannan sends a ball into the area that the visitors fail to deal with and the ball drops to full-back Daniel Pudil and he crashes home just his second goal of the season.
