    FC Midtjylland 1-1 Man Utd

Manchester United will feel they should be ahead after two very presentable chances in a short space of time. The hosts have gone a bit quiet, as have their fans. Can Louis van Gaal's side find a goal in the final third?

  2. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 55 mins

    FC Midtjylland 1-1 Man Utd

Unlucky! Jesse Lingard arrives on a cross from the left from Ander Herrera, he smashes a volley back from whence it came and he's really unfortunate to see his strike smash the crossbar...

  3. CLOSE!published at 53 mins

    FC MIdtjylland 1-1 Man Utd

Chances at both ends! First, goalscorer Pione Sisto shoots from 20 yards but it's a routine catch for Sergio Romero in the United goal. Then the men in black counter-attack, Daley Blind whips over a fantastic ball and Juan Mata gets his angles wrong, heading wide from about 10 yards!

Perhaps the cross was a touch high in fact. Blind has arguably been United's best attacking outlet tonight.

A brighter, better start for Manchester United to this second half as Memphis Depay spins out of trouble on the left wing, cuts inside but then loses out as he is crowded out. If Louis van Gaal wants to change things from the bench he hasn't got much in the way of experienced, attacking options. Throw Will Keane on?

  6. CLOSE!published at 48 mins

    FC Midtjylland 1-1 Man Utd

Memphis Depay is caught offside as he looks for an early surge down the middle. There's a lot of talent in that boy, somewhere. He just hasn't looked settled at all since joining Manchester United, bar that one good game in Europe.

Anthony Martial again just walks past defenders and tees up Jesse Lingard, but he leans back, gets his form all wrong and skies a shot over the top.

DSBrooks: United are a desperate side, utterly rudderless, drifting aimlessly downstream. Van Gaal with notepad, clueless at the helm.

    Anthony Kariuki: Limp. Lame. Lifeless.

Francis Edwards: Am I the only one who remembers what watching Chelsea under Mourinho was like? Don't United fans wanted entertainment?

It's pretty tight and cagey in the early kick-offs across the continent - no team has more than a one-goal lead. In fact Tottenham, with their away goal, look the best placed.

Let Van Gaal go now and bring in Mourinho before it is too late. We can still salvage something from this season.

If United didn't have Inspector Gadget in nets this season, they'd be down where Chelsea are in the league! If Madrid take him in the summer they're doomed!

This is a disgraceful display of european football. second rate, not worth the huge salaries they earn. embarrassing to watch.

Anthony Crolla won't be happy in that away end after the first half ends with the scores level. Manchester United have at least got an away goal on the board though.

These sides meet again in the second leg at Old Trafford next Thursday...

More gremlins at the back for Manchester United as the usually reliable Michael Carrick plays a slack pass which Pione Sisto cuts out. He still has plenty to do but does it in style, jagging across the 18-yard line from left to right and firing in a low shot which diverts past Sergio Romero off the shins of Chris Smalling.

And that miss for the hosts is put into focus when United score 56 seconds later. It's a really scrappy goal too, Memphis Depay meeting a cross from the right but slipping, his touch gets away from him but while on the floor he manages to poke it past Mikkel Andersen and into the net.

  20. CLOSE!published at 37 mins

    FC Midtjylland 0-0 Man Utd

YOU HAVE TO SCORE! My word!

How did that even happen? One clearance is enough for Midtjylland to have two players clean through from the halfway line! They have to score but Vaclav Kadlec almost has too much time and ends up shooting at Sergio Romero.

    WHAT A CHANCE!
