Despite taking a number of young players to Denmark, Louis van Gaal starts just two of them, both in defence - Paddy McNair and Donald Love (who makes his full debut). They are two of four changes in an otherwise strong United side that also includes Memphis Depay and Ander Herrera.

Manchester United XI: De Gea, Love, Smalling, McNair, Blind, Herrera, Carrick, Lingard, Mata, Memphis, Martial.

Who's laughing now? For so long the Europa League has been the subject of derision from fans of the so called 'big four'.

A second-rate tournament to be mocked by those lucky and privileged enough to be competing in the Champions League.

    But nobody's invincible.

Manchester United skulked in, and swiftly out, of the competition in 2012 and now they're back again. To Denmark, without their captain, with revolting fans and a manager under constant, microscopic consultation.

Anything other than a win would be embarrassing. Right?
