    West Ham 0-1 Southampton

Andy Carroll, with braided hair, blazes over the crossbar from around two yards out. It was a swinger with his weaker right foot, but the Englishman should have done much better.

He seems a bit tense there when the ball fell to him, he needs to let his hair down and relax.

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 18:35

    Man Utd 0-0 Chelsea

David De Gea saves Manchester United again, not for the first time we've seen that.

Eden Hazardis the catalyst, making a mazy run before feeding Pedro, whose curled effort from the edge of the area is pushed away by the Spanish goalkeeper.

Cesar Azpilicueta's follow up is also saved by De Gea. Excellent, aware goalkeeping.

  4. 'We'll battle on'published at 18:35

    West Brom 1-0 Newcastle

A bit more from Newcastle boss Steve McClaren, speaking about Rob Elliot’s illness: “Rob just came down for late breakfast and he didn’t feel too good and he got worse and worse. We tried him in the warm-up and he felt he couldn’t play.

"Huge disappointment because he’s been fantastic for us. We’re all unhappy with the goal we conceded. We coped with everything and I don’t think Darren fletcher will say it was a bullet header but that’s football. Decisions at each end have cost us but we’ll battle on.”

  5. Postpublished at 18:33

    West Brom 1-0 Newcastle

Newcastle boss Steve McClaren: “We’ve had a tough three days and I feel so sorry for the lads. After so much effort and attitude to stand toe to toe with West Brom, dealing with all the crosses and the balls in the box, I thought we did ever so well. But I think the game hinged on two things. The second half it was a certain penalty. It’s unbelievable. It doesn’t help us, it’s cost us the chance to get the first goal, which is all-important in this kind of game.

"It was always a 1-0 game. We felt quite comfortable, played some good football, created some chances, didn’t quite take them, but I didn’t think the boys deserved to get beat today."

I'm in Robbie Savage's corner with this one. Xherdan Shaqiri meant his goal. No doubt about it.

    Norwich 2-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Remi Garde, speaking to BBC Sport: "I would like to say we deserved a point but at the end I think Norwich deserved the win. Nothing more to say.

"We did not play as well as we did in the last two games. We tried to do our best, of course, but did not create many chances. If you don't score in a game, you don't deserve to win.

"I will be the last man not to believe we can still win games. It is my job to make the players believe we will win the next one. I know it has been a long time for them to win, me as well, but we have the quality to win games.

"Sometimes in football you have to cope with this kind of situation. January will be important."

    West Brom 1-0 Newcastle

West Brom boss Tony Pulis: “We deserved the victory. It was a good game, an open game. They were dangerous on the counter and we had to defend the set plays well but I don’t think there’s any argument that we should have won the game. The disappointing thing again is that we should have scored more goals.

"Victor (Anichebe) on his day is unplayable. He’s got everything that you’d want from a centre forward. After Rickie Lambert played the full 90 minutes against Swansea, it was always in my mind that I played Victor.

"The first 10 minutes we could have been 3-0 up, they defended stoutly but thank goodness the dam did burst in the end.”

Eden Hazard, playing up top, is getting some treatment today. Chris Smalling a couple of weeks ago, now Daley Blind rakes down the back of his Achilles. Second later, Ander Herrera bundles him over.

Want to play as a striker do you? Going to have to take the rough stuff if you do, Eden.
