    Garth Crooks
Former Spurs striker on Final Score

"It is difficult to stop the momentum that is gathering against Louis van Gaal.

"But if they win today it puts them on 32 points. If Leicester lose tomorrow they will not be a million miles away from doing something remarkable.

"Plus everyone is massively inconsistent, it is an extraordinary year."

Not spotted any beany hats on the Manchester United players warming up, maybe they didn't find any in their Christmas stockings.

Lost their last four and no wins in seven games, the Red Devils can still win the title is the view of one man...

    Everton 3-4 Stoke

Xherdan Shaqiri, speaking to Match of the Day: "It's a beautiful goal and an important goal for the team. The ball was good and deep from Bojan, the finish was good too! I really enjoyed looking back at it on the TV but more important was the three points.

"It was a beautiful game for the people inside the stadium. Everton were very good too. I feel better game by game and you will see that on the pitch. I am really happy to have scored for Stoke."

    Norwich 2-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Remi Garde, speaking to Sky Sports: "We didn't play as well as we did in the last two games. We missed more passes and more opportunities up front. Norwich deserved the win.

"The spirit in the team was good but we did not show enough commitment. We deserved not more than what we have.

"I am very concerned of course about the situation. I will be the last man not to believe we are capable of winning games. I believe my players are good enough to win games but this season is a difficult for Villa.

"Sometimes in football you have to cope with this situation."

Branislav Ivanovic is seen as bit of a hard man in the Chelsea side, but he's warming up in a blue beany hat and gloves.

He looks like a big baby who is about to be tucked in for a nap by his mummy.

Meanwhile, a stat which Manchester United fans will lose sleep over...

Brentford move to within a point of the play-offs after beating Reading 2-1 in the Championship, but the stand-out result is Burnley's 4-0 drubbing of Bristol City.

Walsall move top of League One after a 2-0 win over Peterborough and Fleetwood slip into the drop zone after losing 3-1 against Wigan.

Dagenham and Redbridge have pulled two points clear of League Two's bottom club Yeovil after a 3-1 win over Stevenage, and Plymouth came from behind to beat Newport and stay top.

  9. Van Gaal defiant - for nowpublished at 17:06

Man Utd v Chelsea (17:30 GMT)

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

In his programme notes for tonight's meeting with Chelsea at OId Trafford, embattled Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is in defiant mood.

He writes: "We can turn this situation around. This is Manchester United, a club which is known around the world for never being beaten and I have confidence in the players, the staff and myself that we can do this and begin to once again reward you all."

Will that be the speech after the game?
