Russia will be delighted it's 0-0. England have had all the chances, the football has been great, the tempo and movement, but they just need to add the finishing touch.

I cannot not see England winning this match.

Well that flew by. England have done everything but score. Some of the build-up play has been beautiful. If only we had a finish to match it.

I'm enjoying watching this. But you don't want a sloppy moment or lack of concentration to give Russia a leg up in this match.

    England 0-0 Russia

Russia are dug in like an Alabama tick. England are winning every department, but they are not ahead in the match. Adam Lallana is caught offside as he collects a ball from Kyle Walker, who again is very deep in Russian territory.

England are getting so much joy down the right hand side. Dele Alli is just playing in the inside right position and no-one is picking him up.

Another chance goes begging. The ball is swung into the box from the left and met by a mix of England and Russian men. First to the ball, though, is Akinfeev who punches away.

Danny Rose ballooned that one across the box - that's why he put his hand up. Superman couldn't get on the end of that one.

    England 0-0 Russia

Danny Rose is the latest England man to have a pop. He gathers a pass from Wayne Rooney and smashes an angled drive, but it flashes wide of the far post. Nine shots now for England to Russia's one.

    England 0-0 Russia

There is so much skill and confidence in this England side. Adam Lallana flicks and tricks his way past a couple of challenges before finding Dele Alli, but his ball for Kane is just a tad heavy, allowing Akinfeev to come out and claim.

Everything has been at Russia keeper Igor Akinfeev. But it is encouraging England are able to create so many opportunities.

    England 0-0 Russia

Russia are forced to concede another corner as Harry Kane looks to break away. This time it is taken short before being returned to Kane to swing a wicked cross to the near post. Gary Cahill dives in like a Ryu (or Ken, depending on your preference) but is unable to make contact as Igor Akinfeev saves.

    England 0-0 Russia

Good play from Dele Alli, he set up the shot for Wayne Rooney. The goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev made the right decision by punching it away. Russia don't like the way England are pressing them.

Dele Alli is awesome. He picks up the ball wide right with two Russians for company and nowhere to go. But like Rocky evading KGB agents in the mountains, he gives them the slip and crosses for Wayne Rooney, whose shot is palmed away by Igor Akinfeev.

Rooney is pulling strings, Geppetto-style. His superb ball in to the box nearly gives Dele Alli a sight of goal before a Russian defender gets in to put the ball behind. Harry Kane's corner-taking again lets him and his side down as he swings the ball over everyone.

Wayne Rooney to the rescue. Russia break down the right and cross in to the box but before it can reach a maroon shirt, the skipper gets back to cut the pass out. The game has levelled out a bit now.

Ball in net. But the flag is up to deny Harry Kane, who was clearly offside from Adam Lallana's pass in the box. Just one pass too many. Again, though, the build-up play is cracking.

  17. England must press home advantagepublished at 20:27 British Summer Time 11 June 2016

    Phil McNulty

England well on top and looking so much sharper than Russia - but they are currently letting chances pass them by.

Adam Lallana has had two and Russia are currently struggling to cope with the pace and variety of England's attacks. The quibble is that they should be ahead and must be ruthless when opportunities arise.

The two England full-backs, Kyle Walker and Danny Rose, have made the most touches in the game so far - 26 each.

Russia have their first real period of possession in the first half. They play it along the back-line but are pressed back by a high England line. Hard work to go with the attacking intent. Lovely stuff.

It's great to see our full-backs so attacking and the team playing at a high tempo. It is putting Russia on the back foot.
