The last five encounters between these two have produced 18 goals but this is a cagey affair. Just as I type that Radja Nainggolan lets fly from 30 yards after a half clearance from the Italian defence.

The Belgium player screams at Mark Clattenburg for a corner. He insists it took a deflection. Clattenburg is not having any of it.

Belgium are keeping hold of the ball well, looking to strike. The longer Belgium have the ball, the Italian defence becomes a back five and they can't get out.

Eden Hazard looks in the mood to me. He wants the ball in dangerous areas. He has already played a few one-twos on the edge of the area.

Where's Marouane Fellaini's dark hair gone? The Belgium midfielder has taken a leaf out of the book of Wales' Aaron Ramsey and dyed his hair blonde for Euro 2016.

Decent start by the Manchester United player. He's seeing plenty of the ball.

Nothing to choose between the two teams in terms of possession in the opening 15 minutes. One decent shot by Radja Nainggolan which brought a good save from Gianluigi Buffon is the highlight so far.

That was the first bit of good play from Belgium. It was a lovely save from Buffon.

First shot in anger from the boot of Belgium's Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan draws a fine save from the 38-year-old body Gianluigi Buffon who beats the ball away. Buffon was down quickly. There's life in the old dog yet.

The early signs are good from Italty. The pragmatic approach we expected, sitting back and being defensive, is not what I am seeing.

They are trying to get it up to Pelle as quickly as possible.

Mark Clattenburg is taking charge of this game and the Premier League official has his hands full already.

There's a very late challenge by Eder on Thomas Vermaelen. Clattenburg is talking to Eder like a headmaster scolding a pupil for late homework. No card shown.

Whoever Belgium come up against, the other team will be cautious because the attacking threat they have is ridiculous. If they are on their game they'll be tough to stop.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see the Italians get a good result because I think Conte is trying to create an 'us against them' mentality in the dressing room.

Italy are playing in white shirts and blue shorts. It's a decent kit and they've made a decent start.

Eder's deflected shot from just inside the area spins into the grateful arms of Thibaut Courtois. There's plenty of pace in this Italian side.

It is not often you see an Italian team go into a game as underdogs. But such is the quality of the Belgium team. They have superb individuals, but can they become a team?

Romelu Lukaku is causing problems already. The Everton man has the ball at his feet inside the Italy area and sends the ball towards the six-yard area but it is hoofed clear by Andrea Barzagli before a red shirt can cause any damage.

I am looking forward to seeing whether Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard stay wide because I don't know where else the width will come from.

If they do stay central it is going to be easy for the Italians to mark them.

If Belgium get wide and Marouane Fellaini makes late runs into the box that will cause the defenders problems.

Is there another set of players who sing the national anthem with as much gusto as this Italy side? So much enthusiasm. So much passion.

Can they transfer that on to the pitch?

Is there a more experienced player at Euro 2016 than Gianluigi Buffon?

The 38-year-old goalkeeper is taking part in his 11th senior tournament for Italy yet is searching for his first European Championship winners' medal.

Buffon said in January he intends to retire from football after the 2018 World Cup.

The Juventus stopper, a seven-time Serie A winner and 2006 World Cup winner, is also without a Champions League winners' medal. Can he conquer Europe for club and country before he puts away his gloves?
