You hear enough bad things about England fans so let's praise them. Phenomenal noise now and a continued five or six minutes of constant chanting. England well on top on the pitch too, just lacking that, er, je ne sais quoi

It feels to me that England will score. It is just a matter of time.

Eric Dier is down and needs some treatment, that would be a blow for England. But it looks like he is going to be OK as Harry Kane is close to coming on.

That Gareth Bale goal doesn't change a great deal (except for the +/- column). Wales remain top as long as England are still level.

    Slovakia 0-0 England

England continue to dominate but they haven't got Gareth Bale up top. Wayne Rooney beats his man but his cross is over hit. Still over 20 minutes left. And one sub...

Cutting edge? Wales have a toolkit full! Gareth Bale has his third in three games after a great pass from Aaron Ramsey.

Jim Hooper: Anyone else getting that impending counter attack sucker punch doom feeling...?

Come on Jim. Positive energy as Uri Geller would say.

The England fans in the ground still roaring their side on, great noise. Marek Hamsik pushed back to an auxiliary centre-half and he plays his way out of trouble superbly. England are being frustrated.

England utterly dominant now but it's very congested. Everyone wants to play as a number 10. No width. Dele Alli loses it.

A reminder that if it stays like this Wales win the group and England join them in the last 16 as runners up. Slovakia will have to wait.

  12. Wasteful Wilsherepublished at 62 mins

    Slovakia 0-0 England

Jack Wilshere has enjoyed more productive shifts. The England midfielder was a little off the pace, managing just 36 passes in his 56 minutes on the field. As you can see from our graphic, he managed to complete just 77% of his passes (green arrows) with the red arrows all misplaced balls. Only Joe Hart and Jamie Vardy had a lower completion rate than the Arsenal man.

    Wilshere gamble fails

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer in Saint-Etienne

Jack Wilshere is replaced by Wayne Rooney after he looked less than fully fit and off the pace in his 55-minute appearance.

There is a very good reason for this - he is less than fully fit and off the pace after barely kicking a ball for Arsenal last season.

It was a gamble to select him for the squad and also to play him tonight and neither have come off so far.

Wayne Rooney was greeted like a conquering hero by England's fans and they need him to deliver something for them here in Saint-Etienne.

Off the line! Dele Alli, with almost his first touch, arrives at the far post to meet Jordan Henderson's cross but Martin Skrtel somehow smuggles it away!

Dele Alli on for Adam Lallana, who I actually thought had a good first half. A change of shape?

    Slovakia 0-0 England

Every man, woman and child on Twitter has a substitution suggestion for Roy Hodgson as England continue to slip away. They are a good side for 40 minutes it seems. Sloppy since the restart.

Wayne Rooney coming on for Jack Wilshere is the right decision. Rooney shores everything up and gives you a bit more going forward.

Daniel Sturridge gets on the ball but can't find Ryan Bertrand. England a bit scrappy since the break. Perhaps Wayne Rooney's introduction will settle it down.

Wayne Rooney is on to a huge ovation. He replaces Jack Wilshere, who has not had a good game.

  20. CLOSE!published at 55 mins

    Slovakia 0-0 England

Slovakia now rocking, England now rolling! Vladimir Weiss gets the ball on the left and cuts inside. He scored like that against Russia and he has a shot saved by Joe Hart!
