Good combination play, the chest control of Gotze is brilliant and into the path of Muller. He pulls it across McGovern's goal, you can see his body position will make him pull it. Another good opportunity goes begging.

Thomas Muller is enjoying far too much freedom inside the Northern Ireland penalty area.

Anyway, his search to hit the target - never mind score a goal - continues in the tournament, as he has failed to work the goalkeeper in all three matches so far.

This time, he works a opening for himself on the edge of the area, but his shot is scuffed wide.

Another German attack and another close shave for Northern Ireland.

This time Jonas Hector gallops down the wing before laying it on a plate for Mesut Ozil but the Arsenal man, who is about 12 yards out, can't keep his shot down and the ball lands on the roof of Michael McGovern's net.

A terrible finish, Ukraine should really be ahead.

Roman Zozulya plays a superb flicked ball through to Dynamo Kiev winger Andriy Yarmolenko, who finds himself through on goal.

With the Polish defenders having a nap, Yarmolenko closes in on Lukasz Fabianski, but his left-footed effort as he opens up his body is struck wide of goal.

Poor from the Ukrainian, but where were the defenders?

Never mind Will Grigg, it's NI keeper Michael McGovern who is on fire in these early stages.

He's made three superb saves already and more touches (10) than any other player in green...

I would like to see Northern Ireland try to play a little bit more down Germany's left-hand side.

Conor Washington has definitely got the beating of Mats Hummels. I think they need to filter the play and try to get into some good positions down this right-hand side.

Mesut Ozil, Thomas Muller and Mario Gotze have all gone close but the important thing is Northern Ireland remain on level terms.

They're struggling to get out of their own half.

The green and white army burst into a chorus of "It's just like watching Brazil".

It's Michael McGovern 0-0 Germany.

The world champions have had four shots and 77% possession in the opening quarter of an hour.

This could be a long evening for Michael O'Neill and his players.

So far, so good for Northern Ireland. They are on course to finish third in Group C, which would be enough for a place in the last 16.

Crikey. 

Michael McGovern makes another fine save to keep out Mesut Ozil from close range with the NI defence all over the place.

That's two top-notch saves in the opening exchanges.

Ukraine starting to grow in this game and are only just kept scoreless because of fantastic Polish defending.

Olexandr Zinchenko, a 19-year-old midfielder who is the country's youngest scorer, plays a beautiful ball through to lone frontman Roman Zozulya, but the Dnipro player's rasping shot is brilliantly blocked by Poland centre-back Michal Pazdan.

That was heading into the bottom corner.

It has been a great start to this game.

Oh my goodness, end-to-end stuff. A chance at each end.

A clever first-time pass was Northern Ireland's undoing and McGovern makes a massive save early on.

A fantastic touch from Mesut Ozil to play in Thomas Muller. But Michael McGovern makes himself big and strong, absolutely fantastic goalkeeping.

Every time I have watched McGovern I've been mightily impressed by him.

Incredible passage of play and there's almost a goal at both ends.

Michael McGovern comes to Northern Ireland's rescue by keeping out Thomas Muller following Mesut Ozil's exquisite pass.

Then NI counter with Conor Washington but he loses possession on the edge of the German penalty area.

Ukraine make their first foray forward and left-back Bohdan Butko finds space on his flank, but his cross is poor and cut out by Poland centre-back Kamil Glik.

Hoping Glik sees a lot of the ball today, the other names are too much of a handful.

Germany happy to build from the back. The world champions are seeing plenty of the ball but their radar is not working at the minute as their final ball is lacking.

Joshua Kimmich sends in a long hanging cross into the NI area but Aaron Hughes is well placed to head clear.
