  1. GREAT SAVE!published at 6 mins

    Sweden 0-0 Belgium

    What a save!

A Sweden free-kick is pumped into the box and the ball falls in the middle of a mass of players. Eventually it squirms free and kindly for Marcus Berg, who has just Thibaut Courtois to beat, but the Belgian keeper thumps his shot away.

Great tempo at the start of this game.

A reminder that the Republic progress with a win, anything else and they are out. Italy have already won the group.

Stephen Ward gets the ball from left-back and immediately hurls it towards Tony Cascarino. Sorry, Daryl Murphy.

Great pressure early on from Ireland...

Shane Long chases a lost cause. It's what he does.He wins a throw but loses out after a bobble. Another CRUNCHER from James McClean. Federico Bernardeschi left in a crumpled heap.

    Sweden 0-0 Belgium

Early chance for Belgium as Jan Vertonghen pounds his way up the wing before swinging his boot at the ball and flinging in a cross. He hits it too hard and too long and it goes out for a throw.

Vertonghen might look to tread carefully in this game. He, along with Thomas Vermaelen is on a yellow and another in this game means he misses the last-16 tie.

Seamus Coleman is the captain tonight, a big responsibility on him and he could be the captain for the next 10 years.

A big onus on him and he has laid a marker down early on.

Buffon still gets in the act from the bench. Triffic.

The stadium is packed with those supporting Ireland. Seamus Coleman is captain tonight and he looks to be a very proud man as they belt out the anthem.

No Buffon for Italy's anthem but no shortage of volume. Those in the second string get their chance to shine. Good effort.

One thing about Republic of Ireland is that they are competitive on a bad day. Martin O'Neill will have galvanised them but a lot of the lads play in the Championship.

They will give everything but they don't have enough quality.

The players are in the tunnel, the Italians are laughing and joking. One thing I forgot to mention is that they may feel like they've been stitched up by this draw.

They won the group after two games. And have ended up playing Spain!

Only one team has failed to have a single shot on target at Euro 2016, and that's Sweden.

They have to work the keeper tonight or it's goodbye to France.

There are some Italy supporters here, but green shirts dominate the landscape inside and outside the Stade Pierre Mauroy and, with the roof closed, they are already producing a deafening din. I hope both these fans got in - when I spoke to them they said they only had one ticket...

It is win or bust for the Republic of Ireland tonight which is why they have gone on the attack - but how much difference will it make?

Martin O'Neill's side have managed only one shot on target in their first two games in Group D - Wes Hoolahan's goal against Sweden - so, on paper at least, it will be easy for them to better that under the lights in Lille.

On this much maligned pitch, however, it might not be so simple. Daryl Murphy will add numbers to their frontline but he only scored seven goals in the Championship last season, so is hardly a man in form.

But the Irish fans are already making a lot of noise, and there seem to be a lot of them here - even in the Italy end of the ground. If the Boys in Green are to reach the last 16 - that rhymes, surely a good omen - their supporters will surely have to play a huge part, again.

After the Belgium game, the camp is on a downer. It was OK after Sweden but you expected them to respond against Belgium after conceding the goal in the first game.

Martin O'Neill has made a lot of changes today and players' international careers are on the line and they are looking at the campaign ahead.

O'Neill has got it in his own hands to review the tournament, his new deal is not done and dusted.

The pressure is on the Republic after the woeful performance against Belgium. Players did not want the ball, some want it a bit more such as James McCarthy.
