  5. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 36 mins

    Italy 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Ireland free-kick, pumped Big Sam-style from halfway, nodded on by Shane Duffy and does it land on the arm of Andrea Barzagli? Looks like it, but looks like Barzagli was fouled too. nothing given, on you go.

Good chance! Robbie Brady with a fantastic ball to the back stick, the keeper comes, goes, comes again and is nowhere. Shane Duffy stretches to head over but if he leaves it, Shane Long has a tap-in...

    Italy 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Ireland looking to use the combination of Stephen Ward and James McClean down the left. Looks like Federico Bernardeschi and Andrea Barzagli are going to have to be on their toes.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 32 mins

    Sweden 0-0 Belgium

In the book goes Belgium full-back Thomas Meunier as he wrestles Emil Forsberg to the floor.

Not the most memorable half hour of football I've seen at this tournament. We were spoilt earlier today.

James McCarthy has been questioned a lot in Ireland, but has been playing in a left or right of a diamond.

Today he is playing in central midfield which suits him a lot. He has had an outstanding start to this game.

As we approach the half-hour mark, Italy have not had a single effort on goal so no wonder their fans used their first corner as an excuse to break into a chant of 'Italia, Italia'.

The good news is that they really do not look interested in scoring - but the worrying thing from the Republic's point of view is that they are still looking pretty solid at the back.

A fantastic clearing header from Andrea Barzagli, Italy on the ropes here.

I may be wrong but an English side have never managed to sign a first-choice Italy centre-half have they? Imagine Nesta, Cannavaro, Maldini, Chiellini in the Premier League...

Cristiano Ronaldo finally arrived at the Euro 2016 party earlier today, Zlatan Ibrahimovic's turn now?

The striker is looking lively as he charges at the Belgium defence before feeding Marcus Berg, who attempts to flick it back for his strike partner, but Belgium sweep up.

High tempo, high pressure, (not) high class so far. But very engaging.

I'm seeing a Robbie Keane winner, after which he strips down to reveal his Internazionale kit from 2001. He supported Inter as a boy, you know.

First real chance for Zlatan Ibrahimovic as he sweeps a low drive just wide of the far post. Solid effort to warm up with.

    Sweden 0-0 Belgium

Eden Hazard is like a fly that gets stuck inside your house on a hot summer's day. He's zipping around that Sweden penalty area and while they can see him, they can't get near him. He skips along the edge of the area, rolls the ball behind for Kevin de Bruyne, but his shot is wide.

    Sweden 0-0 Belgium

Plenty of possession for Belgium in Nice. They also lead the shot tally 3-1. No goals yet, though.

That's why he's in the team! Daryl Murphy rises high to meet a swinging corner from Robbie Brady, gets the forehead well behind it but Salvatore Sirigu gets a finger on it to turn it away!

Italy look there for the taking to me...
