The overwhelming feeling is one of City on the way up and Utd taking over from Liverpool as the Norma Desmond of the Prem. I hope Pep to City is the catalyst to Utd having a massive overhaul of manager, players, scouting, recruitment, facilities and youth team. However, I'm not so biased that I can't be excited to see what Pep in the Prem will bring, I just hope Utd can keep up

Three clubs are going down. Two of them will have wasted a lot of money.

Gutted that Villa have brought no-one. Also worried that the new chairman works for a firm of liquidators!

The figures are in from Deloitte and this year's total January transfer window spending was £175m – the biggest January transfer spending for five years.
Hearts
Hearts end a very busy day by announcing the signing of defender John Souttar. The 19-year-old arrives from Premiership rivals Dundee United for an undisclosed fee and has thrashed out a three-and-a-half-year deal at Tynecastle.
Tuesday sees eight Premier League fixtures after a quiet transfer deadline day for most top-flight clubs.

"Jordan Rhodes is proven at Championship level. He's a very calm finisher, two-footed, and around the box he's as good as anyone I've played with. Where you lose a bit is in terms of his pace and link-up play. If Boro are behind in games, is he the man to help you get out of it, because he's not the quickest?"
If Ritchie De Laet helps Middlesbrough win the Championship title, and Leicester go on to win the Premier League, will he be the first player to get both winners medals in the same season?

BBC Sport's Mark Clemmitt: "Boro obviously think Jordan Rhodes is the man for them. What a palaver it has been. There has been some contrition today though and he is clearly the man Boro have been chasing. They think Jordan is the man to score the goals for them. He has a one in two ratio and if he continues that for Boro they will be there or thereabouts for the Premier League."

Manchester City - the club once branded "the noisy neighbours" by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson - now have a manager who will be the envy of most supporters at Old Trafford, a man many would have regarded as the perfect Old Trafford appointment.
While Manchester United have served up a dull brand of football under the much-criticised Louis van Gaal, City have landed the man who has made his name producing football of the highest quality - with success to match.
Since arriving at Bayern at the start of the 2013-14, Guardiola's teams have an 88% passing accuracy in Bundesliga games, averaged 71% possession and scored 224 goals, with Borussia Dortmund their nearest rivals on 179.
United may be able to call themselves a bigger business and have a larger worldwide fan base - but by acquiring Guardiola, a man who would have been welcomed any club in the game, City have confirmed they are currently moving forward at a greater pace.

"It's unfortunate for Liverpool that the Alex Teixeira move didn't work out, because he's a super talent. But Liverpool have created their own problems in that regard, because they've overspent on players in the past."

The Times chief football writer Henry Winter: "Remi Garde is really unimpressed with the fact that he hasn't got any of his targets. But it's difficult. Are players really likely to go to a club that seems doomed?"

"I think it is clear that their issue is scoring goals. They have dropped 12 points from leading positions. That is not good enough. And in 10 games they haven't scored. Players have missed gilt-edged chances in situations they should be scoring and in games when they were playing well.
"I have been impressed with the work they have done. They have brought players in who know the league, like Jonjo Shelvey, who is creative. The one player I am most excited about is Andros Townsend, who is direct and has pace and can score goals."

"The fact that Saido Berahino hasn't played very much says something to me. Tony Pulis doesn't quite trust him - after all, they're not exactly flush with goals. He's probably got his heart set on Tottenham and I think that's where he'll end up."

The Times chief football writer Henry Winter: "I think a lot of people will be in for Manuel Pellegrini, particularly because, as is likely, he could leave with a trophy."

I am utterly speechless. The one team that needed signings makes none, whilst our rivals open the coffers and indulge in new blood. The white flag? A massive white flag with 'We are going down' emblazoned on it. The final nail in the Aston Villa coffin.

The Times chief football writer Henry Winter: "I feel it's one of the most significant moments in the history over the Premier League. You've got the number one coach in the world here. The statistics are incredible, but it's not just the statistics, it's the style of play."
