In League Two, Portsmouth manager Paul Cook says the club are actively working to add a new attacking signing before the transfer deadline this evening.

Cook and the squad are on their way to Morecambe for tomorrow's game, but the manager says the club are working hard on the right deal.

"If we can get them over the line, we'll be delighted," he told BBC Radio Solent.

"I do believe it will add to our squad for the run-in."

  2. Guardiola to become new Man City bosspublished at 13:29 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2016

    Manchester City

What are Manchester City getting when they bring in Pep?

Probably the most highly-prized manager in world football. A man who has dominated La Liga and the Bundesliga with his Barcelona and Bayern Munich sides.

And a philosophy. This is a man who drills his players to pass the ball.

    Tiki-taka they call it.

League One side Doncaster Rovers announce veteran centre-half Rob Jones has left by mutual consent.

Jones, 36, stood in as interim manager after Paul Dickov's departure earlier this season, but has now been allowed to leave by new gaffer Darren Ferguson.

"The club would like to thank Rob for his time and commitment in his time here," say Donny.

Boss Michael Appleton is not optimistic that former loanee Chris Maguire will rejoin for a second spell - but he does anticipate one player signing before the close of the window.

Going the other way will be striker Patrick Hoban who is set to be loaned out and midfielder Danny Rose (pictured) who has probably played his last game for the club.

    Trevor Sinclair
Former Manchester City winger on BBC Radio 5 live

"It’s a massive, massive statement from the club, of where they are going. City are huge already but this is them setting out exactly where they want to go.

"He's the hottest manager out there. Every club would want him. And when you look at the recruitment possibilities now, that's where you really start to get excited. He'll be able to bring in some huge players.

"You have to feel sympathy for Manuel Pellegrini. But he's got the opportunity to go off with a big bang now. Huge news for all City fans."

  7. DONE DEALpublished at 13:25 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2016

    Peterborough

Peterborough have signed Exeter City striker Tom Nichols for an undisclosed fee on a long-term contract.

The 22-year-old, who scored in the FA Cup third-round draw against Liverpool in January, was out of contract at the League Two club in the summer.

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony seemed pretty ecstatic about getting their man.

    Newcastle United

If Saido Berahino is to move to Newcastle today, he might be better driving up there.

The weather isn't conducive to a helicopter ride.

As BBC weather forecaster Steve Cleaton says: "Winds are already widely reaching gale force across the north of England this afternoon, so flying will definitely be very difficult for helicopters and small aircraft this afternoon in that part of the world."

Or you could get the 14:05 from Birmingham to Newcastle, Saido? Sit with the punters in economy?

    Manchester City

Here's the statement from Manchester City: "Manchester City can confirm that in recent weeks it has commenced and finalised contractual negotiations with Pep Guardiola to become MCFC head coach for the 2016-17 EPL season onwards.

"The contract is for three years. These negotiations were a re-commencement of discussions that were curtailed in 2012.

"Out of respect for Manuel Pellegrini and the players, the club wishes to make its decision public to remove the unnecessary burden of speculation.

    Manchester City

It's an odd situation for Manuel Pellegrini, who could - but probably won't - end the season with four trophies in his sky rocket. Rather like when Jupp Heynckes left Bayern Munich after winning three trophies in his final season.
