Some interesting chat from Begona Perez below. Will Pep struggle with the intensity of the Premier League early on? I seem to remember Pellegrini struggling, certainly away from home, when he first joined the club. City got turned over quite a few times.

  2. Guardiola to become new Man City bosspublished at 14:26 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2016

    BBC Radio 5 Live
    Spanish football journalist Begona Perez

"Pep Guardiola can fulfill Manchester City’s European ambition, but this will be the biggest challenge of his career. It’s not a secret that Bayern Munich are the dominant force in the Bundesliga, and in the Spanish league only Barcelona and Real Madrid could compete on equal terms, but this is the Premier League, where every game is a challenge, and every single minute matters.

"He loves challenges, he loves the excitement of English football, and I am sure he feels ready. It was about time for him."

Wahbi Khazri – Bordeaux to Sunderland

"Equally adept as an attacking midfielder or a wide left player, though I would stick him as an inside forward, Khazri has high ratings for technique, vision, and free-kick taking. He also has good attributes for determination and composure, which could be an asset to the Black Cats in their relegation fight.

"In my save, he fails to register a plus 7 average but he is an accomplished, versatile player; it’s hard to agree with an £8m valuation though."

We have asked Football Manager expert Alex Stewart - a man who is no stranger to snaffling bargains and spotting potential, all from the comfort of his own laptop on the popular computer game - to offer an alternative perspective on the transfer market.

It may look like Sunderland have been quiet so far today, but rest assured Big Sam will be a busy, busy man.

He's apparently working his way through, external a list of 60 transfer targets.

I dread to think what calibre of player he's looking at when he gets into the 50s on that list...

When Pep sits down and meets the media for the first time, will he say he's always admired City?

I love to imagine that, 17 years ago this week, he was following the fortunes of the Blues in their Division Two game against Millwall.

There were, after all, some heavyweights playing that day. The likes of Jamie Pollock, Andy Morrison and Lee Crooks.

City, in case you were wondering, won 3-0. The goals coming from Paul Dickov, Terry Cooke and Kevin Horlock.

There's no update on Newcastle's bid for Saido Berahino from West Brom assistant manager Dave Kemp, who's been speaking to the media to preview Tuesday's match against Swansea.

He expects Berahino to be in the squad for that game. "Saido picked up a slight knock in training but we are hoping he will be fit for tomorrow," he says.

Huddersfield have recalled striker Jordy Hiwula from his loan spell at Wigan.

A nervy few hours ahead for Huddersfield fans (I say that as one!)

Ben Cleaveley: Man City have sabotaged deadline day with that announcement. Who will Pep sign in the summer?

Richard Atherton: Pep is overrated in my opinion, couldn't fail at either club because of where they were. MP harshly treated.

Zebediah: I will only believe Guardiola is the greatest manager around when he takes on Bournemouth and turns them into champions.

Roberto Martinez has made no secret of his aversion to buying in January, unless one of his identified targets suddenly becomes available.

But with the sale of Steven Naismith leaving the Toffees short on cover for Romelu Lukaku, it looks like he is in the market for a striker before the deadline.

There are reports we have lodged a £13.5m bid for Senegal marksman Oumar Niasse and rumours of serious interest in Ecuadorian Miller Bolanos, suggesting that Martinez will put the Naismith money to use to help address his side’s faltering Premier League form with more firepower.

Luke Blakely: Pep to Man City is the worst news for Man United since Fergie left. He will have the time and resources to build a dynasty. Scary.

Ludachris: Guardiola keeps saying he wants new challenges yet only takes jobs at teams who are either champions already and/or have money.
