"We’re all waiting to see if Leicester City can sign a striker before the deadline but reports in France and Italy suggest that they’ll be losing a defender.

"Yohan Benalouane has struggled for first-team football at the King Power stadium and is set to join Fiorentina on loan.

"Fiorentina are busy. They’re going to allow former Espanyol captain Joan Verdu to join La Liga side Levante."

Some movement at Tottenham. Serbian youngster Milos Vejlkovic, who helped his nation win the Under-20 World Cup last summer, has packed his bags and headed over to German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

Aston Villa

"Given that Villa are probably down, it will be difficult to attract any real quality players. The best hope is fringe players of bigger clubs that may want game time before the European Championships, although Blackburn striker Jordan Rhodes would be a good shout.

"The team have conceded a lot less than last year, but are just not scoring so a striker is a must. A goal-scoring midfielder would be a massive boost also as the performances have been better of late but with no end product."

Pat Murphy

"Remi Garde confirmed no Aston Villa player would be leaving today. He said there was still a chance of bringing in players, but none would be on his priority list, as were Doumbia & Kalnic. 

"Garde's travelling down to London with the team for tomorrow's West Ham game - which suggests he doesn't expect to land a preferred target."

Watford

"We've traded up by releasing a number of younger or peripheral players on loan, whilst bringing in a seven figure fee for long-term outcast Diego Fabbrini.

"The ones that ostensibly got away are easy enough to take also - Juan Iturbe, Andros Townsend and Emmanuel Adebayor all fall squarely under the "heads we win/tails you lose" heading. Dead exciting when they might have happened, easy to dismiss as unreliable/expensive gambles when they didn't."

"The ‘flair’ pick among the new signings so far for fantasy managers could be Crystal Palace’s Emmanuel Adebayor.

Crystal Palace

"With only one goal from a recognised striker all season, it is clear that Palace need to add some goals. Emmanuel Adebayor has already been bought in on a free transfer to mixed reviews from Palace fans. Some fear his disruptive nature while others are excited at the prospect of having such a household name playing for the team. 

"With the ageing Damien Delaney and Brede Hangeland in the Palace ranks a new centre back is needed, but this is unlikely to be addressed in this transfer window. 

"Similarly, a step up in class in centre midfield is needed to go alongside Yohan Cabaye but with supposed target Jonjo Shelvey heading to Newcastle, I suspect that we will wait for the summer again." 

Red N Blue Army, external

Blackburn Rovers midfielder John O'Sullivan will extend his stay with Bury until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old has made three appearances for David Flitcroft's Shakers since initially moving to the League One side at the start of January.

"Remi Garde admits it's disappointing to lose out on his two main targets - goalkeeper Lovre Kalnic through work permit problems and Seydou Doumbia, who chose to join Newcastle on loan. 

"He admitted Villa's league position was relevant in Doumbia's case and that the club were surprised Kalnic's application was turned down by the FA.

"Matthieu Debuchy will not be joining from Arsenal who wanted a permanent transfer while Villa just wanted a loan deal."

In Scotland, the transfer window shuts at midnight and there's already been activity this morning with Partick Thistle signing former QPR forward Antonio German on a deal until the end of the season.

Rangers have had bids for St Johnstone's Michael O'Halloran rejected in this transfer window. Might the Ibrox club go back in to secure the forward's services today?

Celtic are close to completing loan deal for Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts and have at least one other target for today...

Nigel de Jong is available on a free transfer - any takers? 

The 31-year-old defensive midfielder has been released by AC Milan, external, having made just six appearances at the Serie A club this season. 

According to the Los Angeles Times,, external De Jong is set to join up with Steven Gerrard at MLS club LA Galaxy.
