Frantic. Desperate. City come so close to a leveller as Sergio Aguero chips a cross in, which Hugo Lloris punches away from Nicolas Otamendi before David Silva fires over from eight yards out. It leaves the French keeper on the floor and needing treatment. Surely that is game over?

RichardN: Lovely move from Spurs and a great goal from a great Dane. Can Spurs see this out from here?

Chris Harvey: On the day City announced Guardiola I was convinced they would finish 5th with no silverware. It's happening before our eyes

Jamie from Cheshunt: £50m winger turns his back on a cross with his arm outstretched. £40m defender dragged out of position by a direct run. Value for money.

Not from the corner they can't. The ball is half-cleared before Sergio Aguero looks to muscle through on the far side but Spurs hold strong and fully clear.

    Man City 1-2 Tottenham

Christian Eriksen has made a real impact of late for Spurs. He has had a hand in five goals in his last five Premier League games (3 goals, 2 assists).

In contrast, Sergio Aguero is struggling here. He can't get the ball under control and then plays a pass straight out of play from the edge of the Spurs box.

Oh, so close from Harry Kane, who unleashes a thunderbolt from 30 yards out. It fizzes past the near post of Joe Hart's goal. The Etihad is quiet now, but for the singing Spurs fans. That Eriksen goal has knocked the stuffing out of the home support.

"Absolutely magnificent play from Lamela. Yaya Toure was out of position and Lamela broke clear of him.

"The run of Eriksen, right in between two centre-halves, and his first touch sensational and put it past Joe Hart."

Would you believe it?! It looked for all the world that the rest of this game would be City looking for a winner and Spurs holding on. But the away side have chucked an almighty twist into the game. Erik Lamela has only just come on but he has taken no time to make an impact with a delayed ball through to Christian Eriksen, who held off his marker in the box and finished low past Joe Hart. And on the Dane's birthday as well.
