Diego Costa, with his hair gelled to the side like a 50s gangster, stares into the distance with the look of a bloke you'd avoid making eye contact with in the street. He can't believe he didn't open the scoring.

Oscar too, who shoots wide from inside the MK Dons box. Should be 2-0 already.

    Steve Claridge
BBC Radio 5 Live at Stadium MK

"Somebody fell over in the box having collided with Costa but I think that's how he found so much space. He really should have scored there."

"Lovely piece of football in that build-up. It's a brilliant save - he's just thrown himself at the ball. Costa was wondering 'how did you manage to save that?'"

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 3 mins

    MK Dons 0-0 Chelsea

That's a proper save! Chelsea look certain to take an early lead when Eden Hazard drives through the centre, lays the ball to his right and a cross comes into the box. Diego Costa prepares to bury the centre, but David Martin scrambles across goal to make a superb block.

Karl Robinson, wearing a black, padded jacket, looks relaxed in the dug-out as he watches on. He says he'll be offering Guus Hiddink a German beer after the game. No posh Italian red wine. When in Milton Keynes and all that.

    Mark Lawrenson

"MK Dons are probably too good a football side - that might go against them. In all honesty, that Chelsea XI - nine of those were regular in the team that won the championship last season."

Time for pre-match handshakes. John Terry offers a forced smile - he knows he can't give anything away today. MK Dons will be up for this.

There is not a spare seat in the house. These tickets sold very quickly, they were in more demand than a trip to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink on the Blues’ recent good form: "The team needed stability. You get stability by not conceding many goals. From there on we tried to play better and better."

MK Dons v Chelsea (16:00 GMT)

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson: "When you look at the Chelsea side - it’s a phenomenal set-up and players - my players are excited. We have a gameplan, but that can go wrong very quickly.

"Collectively we have to make sure we have more hunger and desire - I can’t see this going to a replay. It’s nice this match is on a world stage."

MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman on BBC One: "We are standing here now and the atmosphere... this is what I dreamed of. I don't care about the result, you've seen the Chelsea team. If we can keep growing the club then one day we can do this every week."

"MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman has just wandered across the pitch to carry out media duties to applause from the home fans. A banner with his face and a simple message of 'Thanks' then appears as if out of nowhere. They really are grateful for what the sometimes controversial character has done for this area."

I like the idea of Guus Hiddink walking into the Chelsea dressing room and chucking hugs out.

How would you feel, Chelsea fans, if Jose Mourinho did replace LvG at Manchester United?

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry wrote about that prospect in his column for The Sun, and thinks the Reds would be an ideal destination for the Portuguese: "The club are crying out for success and Mourinho guarantees that.

"He is still an amazing coach and United have got to do something because it is simply not working for Louis van Gaal.

"If Manchester City get Pep Guardiola and Diego Simeone or Jorge Sampaoli go to Chelsea, which is possible this summer, United have to react. They can’t just carry on as they are."

  20. 'We take this competition seriously'published at 15:51 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2016

MK Dons v Chelsea (16:00 GMT)

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink on BBC Match of the Day: "The 2009 FA Cup win [under Hiddink’s management] is highly ranked. The FA Cup is not just in England but worldwide recognised as a major trophy. We always like to go for a win at any stadium.

"We take this competition very seriously. Playing against MK Dons is not easy because they have a reputation of previous years. The players are well aware of what can happen. The players are committed to getting a good result."
