The Stoke City manager has said fans shouldn't "put too much expectation" on defender Ryan Shawcross.
And Michael O'Neill added: "He's basically not played all season, so he's not going to be the difference between us staying up and not staying up."
Shawcross missed the weekend's defeat to Middlesbrough and went off injured in the 3-0 loss to Wigan.
But O'Neill told supporters: "What you can be reassured of with Ryan is he'll give you everything he's got."

The announcement that Wigan Athletic have gone into administration could have a major impact on Stoke City's season.
It's expected to result in a 12 point penalty and that would drop Wigan to the bottom of the Championship table and move Stoke one place further away from the relegation zone.
But that might not be enough, because Stoke still have six games to play and the teams below them have games in hand.
And there is the possibility that Wigan could be spared the 12-point penalty if they successfully argue coronavirus is an "exceptional circumstance", beyond their control.

Stoke City's manager Michael O'Neill says his players should "hang their heads in shame" after their 3-0 defeat at Wigan.
Stoke are now just one point above the Championship's relegation zone going into Saturday's game at home to Barnsley.
Quote MessageAt the end of the day, these players are in a very good situation at this club and they owe the club a lot more than they did tonight. I told them they should hang their heads in shame given the performance tonight."

Michael O'Neill has said the enforced coronavirus break is no excuse for Stoke City failing to win their last two games.
Stoke are at Wigan tonight after slipping down one place to 18th and to within two points of the relegation zone.
O'Neill said it was important his players didn't "over-react to that situation".
And he pointed out: "We've been in a relegation fight since the moment I walked in through the door. That hasn't changed."

Stoke City striker Benik Afobe says the support from the football world following the death of his daughter has been incredible.
Two-year-old Amora passed away on 29 November after complications from a severe infection.
Afobe said he had had messages of support on social media offering advice and help from fans of rival teams.
"Honestly, there's always going to be trolls but I haven't even had one troll and I get thousands of messages but no-one has said anything negative about family or anything like that and it means a lot to me."
