O'Neill also pointed out their opponents won't be playing during the international break, so no scouting can be done and added: "I could watch 40 games, or watch two games and pretty much my squad will be 99% the same."

Northern Ireland can't qualify automatically for the European Championships, but O'Neill will take charge of the team for their playoffs in March.

An agreement between Stoke and the Irish FA means O'Neill stays in charge until the play-off, which Northern Ireland guaranteed with Saturday's draw against the Netherlands.

    "It's dead easy," said O'Neill.

"We're going to turn up on a Sunday and play on a Thursday. I can pick my squad now - I could name it tomorrow."

There has been speculation that O'Neill's ability to fulfil his Northern Ireland role in March could be in jeopardy if Stoke - now second from bottom in the Championship - remain in a relegation fight come the spring.

However, O'Neill was insistent after Saturday's 0-0 draw against the Dutch that he would be able to undertake both roles.

On his club career, Michael O'Neill might appear at strange choice for Stoke City, but it's his success in charge of Northern Ireland which has seen him linked with several clubs in England.

After his playing career, he was manager of Scottish club Brechin City and then Shamrock Rovers in the League of Ireland.

But in 2011, he was appointed manager of Northern Ireland and took the relative international minnows to the Euro 2016 finals before narrowly missing out on World Cup qualification.

The 50-year-old will face a tough task with Stoke City as, since relegation from the Premier League in 2018, the Potters have stumbled to 16th last season in the Championship and are currently bottom.

However, they have a number of well-known players such as internationals Jack Butland, Joe Allen and James McClean.
