Another Liverpool chance goes begging. A low ball across the face of the Augsburg goal cannot be turned in by a red shirt. Six minutes to go...

Almost an instant impact! From Augsburg sub Jan Moravek that is. The Czech international meets a cushioned header from Caiuby with a leaping volley, only to arrow the ball wide.

To me, to you. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp indulges in a bit of tactical jousting with his Augsburg counterpart Markus Weinzierl.

On comes Joao Carlos Teixeira for the Reds, replacing Philippe Coutinho for the final 10 minutes. Augsburg introduce their main playmaker Jan Moravek, who has been suffering from illness apparently.

This should be game over, tie over and Liverpool in the last 16. Reds skipper Jordan Henderson ghosts into the Augsburg area, pouncing on a loose ball about eight yards out. But he can only poke straight at keeper Marwin Hitz. Either side man!

All the noise inside Anfield is coming from the travelling German contingent of around 2,500. They know their side have nothing to lose. One goal will see the Bundesliga side through, but they haven't come that close to sending the away end into raptures. Koo Ja-cheol fires over into the Anfield Road stand from distance.

Dave Toole: Seriously, does James Milner actually ever practice taking corners?

Liverpool almost seal the deal...twice. Philippe Coutinho has a shot blocked by some last-ditch Augsburg defending, then substitute Divock Origi flicks over the bar from inside the six-yard box. Just over 15 minutes to go at a tense Anfield...

Uh oh, here's trouble. Augsburg introduce Paraguay striker Raul Bobadilla, the Europa League's joint top scorer, for the final 20 minutes. He's battling a hamstring injury, hence starting on the bench.

Liverpool going through at the moment - although they could sure do with a settling second.

Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Sparta Prague, Lazio and Shakhtar Donetsk are also heading into Friday's round of 16 draw as it stands.

Oh dear! Another poor delivery by the visitors from that set-piece lets Liverpool off the hook.

But moments later they almost score an equaliser! Tobias Werner scampers through on to a loose ball, but SImon Mignolet races off his line to avert the danger. Quality goalkeeping.

Well Barry, it isn't going to be a 68th-minute away goal. Poor corner from the right is nodded clear at the near post by the Liverpool defence.

But then Mamadou Sakho stupidly concedes a free-kick in a dangerous place on the right flank...

James Milner is not the sort of fella to hit the deck easily. But he's down after an accidental elbow to the chops. Brief break in play before an Augsburg corner. Little over 20 minutes left to play....

Yep, here is Divock Origi. The fourth official raises his board to reveal...Daniel Sturridge's time is up. The Liverpool striker's facial expression is like the one you make when you've poured a bowl of cornflakes only to realise you've ran out of milk. Not happy.

Liverpool need a second goal...quick. Not least to slow down Jurgen Klopp's increasing heart-rate. The Reds boss is going nuts on the sidelines, waving his arms around and screaming at his players from the touchline.

Philippe Coutinho has a pop from inside the Augsburg area, but it lacks power to trouble the away keeper.

Nothing much to report from Anfield in the past few minutes. Other than we've just seen former Reds (and Augsburg) striker Karl-Heinz Riedle sat in the stands, looking remarkably youthful and pretty suave with a black woolen scarve wrapped around his neck.

He was one of those players who you always used to get about eight swapsies of when you collected Merlin Premier League stickers as a kid back in the 1990s. Wonder who he's supporting tonight??

    Tottenham v Fiorentina (20:05 GMT)

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino makes nine changes from the side that lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Hugo Lloris is back in goal to captain the side, while the rest of the spine is strengthened with returns for Toby Alderweireld in defence and Eric Dier in midfield.

Nacer Chadli is given the task of replacing Harry Kane up front after the striker broke his nose in defeat against the Eagles.
