England manager Mark Sampson on BBC One: "It is incredibly tough to take. Two games in a row we have seen penalties not given to us and a ridiculous penalty given against us. The officials aren't good enough.

"It is frustrating because there were lots of good things in that game for us but we haven't quite got over the line. The decision cost us."

All over. England looked to be cruising towards an excellent win - until two massive slices of misfortune in the dying stages.

An own goal and a dodgy penalty turned the game in Germany's favour. They top the SheBelieves Cup group, with England now out of contention after their second straight loss.

Time for another half chance for England. Fran Kirby again in the thick of the action, scampering after a long ball from midfield. But the Germany keeper is alert, tearing out of her goal to snuff out the danger.

England desperately boot the ball forward but Fran Kirby cannot keep the ball in play. Almost over.

Into stoppage time now. England need a miracle.

England's players are pretty shattered now, Germany's superior fitness showing. Alexandra Popp has the chance to seal the win, but shanks one from 12 yards.

European champions Germany are looking very comfortable now. Most of the play is around the halfway line or inside the England half.

Was it a spot-kick? No. Fara Williams was sharper to the ball than Alexandra Popp, seemed to win it, but the referee reckoned it was a foul.
