In comes a final Norwich corner, they have had 13 today by my count. It won't clear the first man and there is the final whistle.

"You never know what would happen but three nil, you never envisaged that. Sunderland have been unbelievable but Norwich have played a part in their own downfall, with the first two goals."

    "Are you watching Newcastle".

No surprise perhaps but the away fans are taunting.

"You're going down with the Geordies".

Norwich 0-3 Sunderland - Duncan Watmore

There's a brutality to this. Just as we hear there are four added minutes, the wind is clearly gone from Norwich sails and suddenly Sunderland are asking a question or two rather than hanging on. Sebastian Larsson has the pass to unlock the defence, Duncan Watmore shapes to shoot but rounds John Ruddy who can only get a hand to the ball as it finds the net.

    Jackpot for Sunderland.

The old Jermain Defoe would have just finished this off as he was well clear from a clearance but didn't have the legs to get the job done.

    Norwich 0-2 Sunderland

I've just had a look at the defensive stats and Lamine Kone has made 16 clearances. The nearest to that tally is Sebastien Bassong with just eight. Kone has been a wall today and as Terry Butcher says, the home side, for all their huff and puff, have not really made a super chance. A lot of half chances, good hits from range, but nothing you'd say was a sitter.

"Norwich have got in some good areas but they have not had a clear cut chance."

    Norwich 0-2 Sunderland

Nathan Redmond has been decent since coming on, lively at least. He finds Wes Hoolahan 18 yards out, no shooting space so he lays it off for Gary O'Neil who fizzes over. O'Neil is not a man used to finding the net and that was a half chance.

Surely, surely, Sunderland have done enough now. Are they on for another escape. How many times will this club dice with relegation and leave the casino with all the bounty.

Cameron Jerome slipped in the right channel, bodies to cross at or can he shoot? He does but gets it wrong and the ball loops over the bar.

As another home penalty appeal is turned down - Sebastien Bassong thought he was pushed in the air - more home hope dies. This is what we are heading towards.

Was that a penalty, there didn't look a lot in it to me but Terry Butcher thinks otherwise...

    Norwich 0-2 Sunderland

A look at the average positions tells the story of Jermain Defoe's day. Lonely. He seems to like it this way though, with 10 goals in 14 away games this season.

    Norwich 0-2 Sunderland

Jan Kirchhoff commits a foul in midfield and Sunderland switch off briefly, allowing a quick free-kick to be played to Nathan Redmond. He has a ping from 25 yards and Vito Mannone turns over smartly.

As Gary Bennett says on BBC Newcastle, Sunderland's central defenders have been tip top. Kaboul in particular has seemed to head everything bar the Norwich team bus. Perhaps he'll get to that later.

BBC Newcastle's SAFC summariser Gary Bennett: "I think we've got enough on the pitch to deal with Norwich's changes. Kone and Kaboul simply have to deal with it."

"I know Watmore very well, he played for me at Hibs and is a great lad, but he is too honest at times. If he left his leg trailing and went down there it would have been a penalty."

  20. CLOSE!published at 78 mins

    Norwich 0-2 Sunderland

Jermain Defoe holds the ball up well and he has a willing runner in Duncan Watmore. Fine reverse pass from Defoe and Watmore is in, he rounds John Ruddy but the touch is heavy, goal kick.
