Steven Naismith gets his head on a Nathan Redmond free-kick, MUST SCORE, no. The Scot isn't tall enough and can't get over the ball from six yards out. A free header.

On the break Jermain Defoe is in again, he can't find space but has to play Fabio Borini in... poor from Defoe as he doesn't lift his head up and the chance evaporates.

    Norwich 0-2 Sunderland

It's a bit harsh on Norwich looking at replays of the goal. Jan Kirchhoff seems to catch Sebastien Bassong from behind in winning the ball. Like the first goal, small margins.

"Norwich have only themselves to blame. It was a good ball across the face and they are the chances that Defoe doesn’t miss."

Norwich 0-2 Sunderland - Jermain Defoe

A slick, slick counter-punch by Sunderland and this result looks in the bag suddenly. Sam Allardyce has his hands in the air and after converting Jermain Defoe clearly shouts "YESSS" into a microphone. You can feel the joy.

The impressive Jan Kirchhoff wins the ball high up the pitch and the home side are exposed, it's three against two. Kirchhoff feeds Fabio Borini and his cross has quality, allowing Defoe to slide and turn home from six yards. A clean, counter-attack hit.

Norwich will look at Sebastien Bassong who gave the ball away and looks disgusted with himself.

One of my colleagues has just pointed out Nathan Redmond has gloves on.

    It's April.

Is this allowable? Or should he be individually relegated?

Sam Allardyce is screaming from his dugout, trying to get one of his players to pick up a certain space from this Sunderland goal kick. It's all about the second ball it seems. Big Sam has to get up and point while screaming at exactly where he wants his man to stand.

"Great strike from Redmond. It has been a very bright start from Norwich, it looks like Redmond has played all of the first 45 minutes not sat on the bench."

Nathan Redmond making a case for a starting place within minutes of his introduction. He picks up the ball centrally and wants to shoot straight away. He gets the ball out of his feet and cracks one right footed from 30 yards. It's a low Daisy cutter and hits the outside of the post. Vito Mannone looked beaten.

A good start to the second period from the home side as a Gary O'Neil corner causes mayhem in the six-yard box. They win a second corner and the noise levels go up... headed clear. It looks like Nathan Redmond will play on the left flank. We'll take a look at how the replacements are slotting in shortly.

So as predicted, Duncan Watmore is in for Wahbi Khazri but the home side also make a change, Nathan Redmond on for Robbie Brady.

We are back under way. The players ran out to the sound of Kasabian on the PA system and there have been a couple of changes. One I guessed, one I didn't...

I don't think it will be long before we see Duncan Watmore on for Wahbi Khazri. The latter has touched the ball 13 times in the first half and has been booked remember. Sunderland cannot risk losing a player in such a key game.

Paul Collins: Why are Norwich fans booing?? It was a penalty! Reckless and over the top of ball with studs showing

Jon Evans: At first I thought harsh but on the close up replay that is a good call from the ref. Always nice to see the ref get it right.

Mike Hunkin: Big call in a big game and a great decision by the ref. A clear penalty and a great spot by the man in the middle.

BBC Newcastle's SAFC summariser Gary Bennett: "They have the lead but there's a couple of things Sunderland need to improve on. At free kicks, they've had Yedlin marking Bassong - who's going to win the header? Bassong every time. It's basic defending."

The clapsticks Norwich gave fans today came in handy at least.

They were waved erratically behind the goal as Borini stepped up to take the penalty and then as he slid on his knees towards Norwich fans in celebration a few were thrown at him.
