Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says: "In the first half they had two or three good shots and Petr Cech did very well. We lacked pace and seemed subdued. It was better in the second half and in the end we got a good win.

“Welbeck came on and finished well. It was a good lay-off by Giroud. We had three strikers on at that time.

“Norwich played very well. I remember Leicester came here last year and we won just 2-1. Look at the results of those fighting not to go down. Newcastle won and Sunderland drew in the last second. Norwich were fighting until the last seconds too."

Matt Price:, external Any hopes Norwich have now depend on them beating United. I'd fancy them to do it, at least they would have done the double.

Bardia:, external What a ludicrous display. Thing about Arsenal is they always try and walk it in.

Norwich City manager Alex Neil says: “I think our gameplan worked really well. Petr Cech made three or four good saves. There was a five-minute spell when we were stretched and Arsenal managed to score in that spell.

“The last thing you can do down in the dogfight is feel sorry for yourselves. We didn’t get what we deserved. We need three displays like that in the next three games.

“If you start worrying about the maths and what other people are doing then it'll drive you crazy. We have two games coming up and they will be key for us.

“We've got Manchester United and then Watford. We have to take maximum points from that.”

So where does that leave Norwich? In a whole heap of trouble, that's where.

Newcastle beat Crystal Palace 1-0 earlier today and Jermain Defoe's injury-time penalty gave Sunderland a 1-1 draw at Stoke.

The Canaries have three matches left - Manchester United and Watford at home and then Everton away on the final day of the season - in order to save themselves from an instant return to the Championship.

David Southall: Another Bendtneresque performance by Olivier Giroud today yet he is still picked! Unbelievable Wenger?

Nick ÜTA: On the plus side, it's nice to have hung on and not capitulated.

He may not have had the best of games, but Giroud did still set up the winning goal.

Only three shots on target for Arsenal, but one goal was enough for three more points.

Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck on Sky Sports: "When you are on the bench you want to come on and make an impact and I got the goal. It was a difficult game, they were fighting to the end but we had to get the three points.

"As a player you have to focus on the match and not on the surroundings. Fans are so important to football clubs and you have to respect that everyone has an opinion.

"I just want to play every single game after being out for such a long time. I am building up my fitness. I prefer to play as a striker but I will do my best as long as I am on the pitch.

"Everyone is very disappointed. It was a great opportunity for us to go for the title this season and it is difficult to handle the way it is ending. We know as a club that we should be doing better than this.

"We want to finish above Spurs but they want to finish above us. We will see what happens."

So it is back up to third for Arsenal, who also move two points behind fierce rivals Tottenham. However, Manchester City will reclaim third place if they win at Southampton tomorrow afternoon.

Leicester, of course, could win the title tomorrow with a victory at Manchester United in Sunday's first game. However, after beating the Foxes twice this season, this campaign will be one the Gunners will regret for years to come. Will it be one failure too many for Wenger?

The players leave the pitch and it is another outing for those home-made signs telling Arsene Wenger that his time should be up. But the number of fans not protesting far outweighs the number who have held up cards or slogans.

Will Champions League qualification be enough to give Arsene Wenger one more season? This was a big three points towards that goal.

John Ruddy cannot make an impact, after loitering on the edge of the area. It is job done from Arsenal. They win 1-0 thanks to Danny Welbeck's winning goal.

We are deep into injury-time. And goalkeeper John Ruddy is storming forward.

Cameron Jerome's header is off target and that may well be Norwich's last chance. It has not been pretty from the hosts, but they look like getting the job done.

Mesut Ozil gets his name in the book after catching Gary O'Neil with a high boot. Ozil tries to run away, but it is to no avail. The ref catches up with him and the German is cautioned.
