Former Celtic boss on BBC Radio 5 live

"These clubs are new-found wealth and history. Man City may be a club with history but it certainly isn't the same club I walked into aged 16. It's now a huge global brand and they have to live up to that."

BBC Radio 5 live have been playing an interview with PSG forward Angel di Maria, which has been translated into English.

He has said some interesting things about his time at Manchester United, before he left last summer.

    Here's a snippet:

"It's not nice to say certain things but it's more they didn't let me settle properly rather than I couldn't settle. They're still playing the same way - I don't think it was my fault or the fault of my team-mates."

Marco Verratti does not play in midfield for PSG tonight, instead they will have to make do with Adrien Rabiot - who I thought was the best player on the pitch against Chelsea.

  5. 'PSG used to a fractured side'published at 19:16 British Summer Time 6 April 2016

PSG v Man City (19:45 BST)

    Raphael Honigstein
European football journalist on BBC Radio 5 live

“I think PSG are the favourites. They are a better side in terms of functioning as a football team. I think we saw that against Chelsea and saw how they’ve really evolved over the last couple of years.

"There were accusations that they didn’t quite get it right and were a fractured side. This is much more of a collective force now. And City even with Kevin de Bruyne don’t quite have that, especially without the ball.

"Marco Verratti is so important running the show. He is a player that makes everyone play a bit better around him because he’s quite selfless in the way he plays.”

    Dion Dublin
Former Man Utd striker on BBC Sport

"I think it will be down to the forwards. How do Man City handle Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the runs of Angel di Maria? I think they will find it too much of a battle to get anything at all.

"I don’t think City have the players willing to go 'right, this isn’t good enough. Let’s put it right.'

"They’re quite soft. 'If it happens it happens, if it doesn’t that’s OK, we’ll be fine.' I don’t think that’s good enough."

How much you should read into stats is debateable but here are some in the build-up Manchester City taking on Paris St-Germain in the Champions League tonight:

    • Only once (in six games) has an English club beaten PSG at the Parc des Princes in European competition. It was Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea in September 2004 (3-0).
    • The last three Champions League knockout encounters between Ligue 1 and Premier League clubs have all seen the French team eliminate their English counterpart.
    • Manchester City have kept fewer clean sheets than any other of the 2015-16 quarter-finalists in this season’s Champions League (1 in 8 games).
    • No team has scored more goals than Manchester City in the final 15 minutes of games in the Champions League this season (6).

When Zlatan glances around the dressing room tonight he will see three team-mates who can tell him what it feels like to win the Champions League.

Midfielder Thiago Motta won it with Barcelona in 2006 (as an unused sub), David Luiz with Chelsea in 2012 and Angel di Maria with Real Madrid in 2014.

Manchester City boast just one winner [four fewer than Stoke City*] as Yaya Toure won it at centre-back for Barcelona in 2009.

Look, if Yaya Toure says he's taking the European Cup to Abidjan for a few days, he will. OK?

*Alright, so of Stoke's three former Barca players only Ibrahim Afellay actually played in a final. And even then only in stoppage time. But Marc Muniesa and Bojan also have medals in their homes somewhere. Bojan has two. And Marko Arnautovic was at Inter when they won it in 2010, though he wasn't in the matchday squad. And Xherdan Shaqiri was on the bench for Bayern in 2013.

Basically everyone at Stoke, except for Glenn Whelan, has won the Champions League...

“Kevin de Bruyne returning was the bad news of the week for PSG. The club were maybe hoping he would start on the bench against Bournemouth and then be on the bench again against PSG. It is a worry, but I think overall PSG will feel like they are slight favourites.

“I think Laurent Blanc has improved massively and time helped. In December 2012, PSG played against Porto in a group game (PSG won 2-1) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva - among others - started the game and Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala were the centre-backs for Porto that night."

“Wolfsburg have been incredibly patient with Nicklas Bendtner, but have now decided he’s setting such a bad example that they rescinded his contract. He slept through training the other day. He had a year left but they feel he is setting a bad example for the rest of the squad."

Pep's biggest challenge is to cope with defeat , the Premier League isn't like the German or Spanish league where there are only two other top teams to challenge with, he needs to be able to keep with the team when they lose to smaller opposition which always happens in the Premier League.

Whatever is thrown at them, City have to find a way of withstanding the wave of Paris St-Germain attacks. They have to take something back to the Etihad to stand any realistic opportunity of progressing beyond this stage of the competition.

Six men have won the Champions League both as a player and as a manager, namely Miguel Munoz, Giovanni Trapattoni, Johan Cruyff, Carlo Ancelotti, Frank Rijkaard and Pep Guardiola.

Fancy Zinedine Zidane to make it seven? He's in charge of Real Madrid and they start as heavy favourites to beat Wolfsburg and progress into the last four.

Wolfsburg tie "like a final"published at 18:54 British Summer Time 6 April 2016

Real Madrid are going into their Champions Leaue tie at Wolfsburg on a high after a win over arch rivals Barcelona in La Liga last weekend.

However, Real coach Zinedine Zidane says his side will treat the quarter-final first leg in Germany "like a final".

"We cannot relax. We are not untouchable and Wolfsburg are able to hurt us," said Zidane.

"Wolfsburg have fought hard and deserve to be here. It will be a tough match but we are well prepared."
