Working at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, watching the game on a poor satellite signal. Was going to blame the signal for the poor quality but realised the Liverpool players ARE all over the place...

Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino are off, Joe Allen and Daniel Sturridge on.

One for Roy Hodgson to take note of, anyway. Will this be Sturridge's role in the summer? Chasing shadows. Dreams.

Anfield has once again fallen quiet after that third Dortmund goal. It's a stretch for even the most committed believer now.

Daniel Sturridge and Joe Allen are going to come on. Miracles needed now.

"Again the simplicity of the goal, like the first two, was brilliant. The less we say about the Liverpool defending the better. They were just picked off. It was an excellent finish from Marco Reus."

Well what do I know? Absolutely nothing.

Mats Hummels takes the ball out of defence again, into midfield and he picks out Marco Reus in behind Liverpool's backline. The angle is tight but the finish is exquisite, as he drives hard, low and early across Simon Mignolet and into the net.

Liverpool now need to score another three...

    Liverpool 1-2 Dortmund (Agg: 2-3)

It's really engaging watch now, end-to-end, rapid pace - Mats Hummels has a wonder up front for Dortmund. Not sure I'd advise that and he loses it but Liverpool can't take advantage.

"Divock Origi looks a different player in the last few weeks compared to the one at the start of the season that appeared to be in awe of his surroundings and team-mates."

    Liverpool 1-2 Dortmund (Agg: 2-3)

Divock Origi is 21 next week, and it's easy to forget that he started at the last World Cup for Belgium ahead of Christian Benteke. And Romelu Lukaku. There's a player in there and he looks a real threat now, rolling his defender and firing high and wide.

Liverpool have 35 minutes to score two more. It's very much possible. Maybe.

    Liverpool 1-2 Dortmund (Agg: 2-3)

A stonewall booking as Philippe Coutinho toes the ball past Mats Hummels on the halfway line and the Germany international just rugby tackles him. Taking one for the team!

Alberto Moreno has the positional discipline of a 10-week-old puppy. He will not sit. Or stay. He's vacant again as Henrikh Mkhitaryan has all manner of space to attack but his cross is cut out.

    If Liverpool could score again...

"It's a really well taken and well-worked goal. James Milner and Emre Can combined before Divock Origi seemed to speed up when put through on goal before slotting in."

A superb tempo to the game now, but Liverpool can't get too cavalier too soon. Dortmund are lethal on the counter attack. Divock Origi has the ball in the box but he can't find a team-mate. Breathless.

Hello! Hello! That is precisely what the game, the tie needed. Anfield erupts as Divock Origi stretches the play and gets clear at the Kop End, and toe-pokes the ball through the goalkeeper's legs.

Liverpool need two more. But that has set it up nicely...

Emre Can loses his footing in a dangerous area but he's relieved to hear the referee's whistle for a foul. Dortmund start brightly as 'We love you Liverpool, we do' rings out.

Jürgen Klopp will doubtlessly be condemning his side's defending for the two Dortmund goals - and you cannot be surprised at that. The standard of that defending is unacceptable, especially when there's a semi-final slot up for grabs. If the mountain that they need to climb wasn't high enough already, their faint hopes would have been extinguished completely had Dortmund got a third. They're still in it, but for me it's nigh on impossible against this class side from Germany.

I was trying to think in that first half which game this reminded me of - and I have just got it.

Brazil 1-7 Germany. Some of Dortmund's play cut through Liverpool like Germany did to Brazil on that night, after a similar, passionate build-up.
