The Spurs players are queuing up to have a pop. Christian Eriksen considers it before passing, Eric Dier does the same, and then Kyle Walker fires from an angle but sees his effort blocked.

Something had to change for Villa. Interestingly, Remi Garde hands a debut to 18-year-old Andre Green. What has he got to lose?

    Aston Villa 0-2 Tottenham

Tottenham are finding gaps with ease now. Danny Rose's cross-field pass releases Kyle Walker, who drives towards the box before unleashing a shot that Brad Guzan has to parry.

I'd be very surprised if this ended 2-0. Villa are done.

Chris Potter:, external 2-0 not good enough for Spurs today against this Villa side. Goal difference could be vital - we need another two or three.

Will Walter:, external Toby Alderweireld is an absolute Rolls Royce of a defender - arguably the best signing of the summer.

Ben Crowhurst:, external Going to be hard to pick between Alderweireld and Alli for Spurs player of the season.

Joleon Lescott sums up the feelings of everyone connected with Villa right now by contorting his face in pain as he slices a clearance out to the left side of the pitch. He looks around at his team-mates, who look desperately around at each other in return.

The only ones doing anything decisive are the home fans, who try some singing and clapping to urge their side on.

Toby Alderweireld has played every minute of every Premier League game for Tottenham this season. He is like a rock. With a fancy haircut. Jordan Ayew looks to drive towards the Spurs box but the defender steps out to tackle him and head off the danger.

That is 22 goals for the season for Harry Kane (19 in the league - level with Jamie Vardy) and 10 assists this campaign for Dele Alli.

Roy Hodgson, you only need to worry about nine other spots now.

    Harry Kane

I reckon this is game over. Tottenham's magic combination works for the second time as Dele Alli's low cross into the box from the left is met by the onrushing Harry Kane and poked into the roof of the net. Remi Garde's team-talk has just exited stage left.

    Aston Villa 0-1 Tottenham

Villa come on strong at the start of the second half with a concerted spell of pressure in and around the Spurs box. A number of players try to dig out a shot but a couple of timely blocks means Hugo Lloris is not called into action.

Soon after Jordon Veretout's long-range shot does draw a save from Lloris, but is a comfortable one.

I've just been alerted to a replay of the Erik Lamela shot that struck the post in that half. At first, I thought it was a poorly-placed effort from the Spurs player but on closer inspection it took a superb save from Bard Guzan to tip it onto the woodwork. Cap doffed Brad.

In contrast, Villa had just three shots in total that half. The green one below is the close-range volley from Rudy Gestede. He should have scored.

Harry Kane could have scored a hat-trick in that half. He hit the bar with one shot and fired a clear chance straight at Brad Guzan before finally bagging just before the break. He has hit more shots on target than any other Premier League player this term (58) and only Everton's Romelu Lukaku (25) has more goals than Kane (21) in all competuitions this season (Sergio Aguero also has 21).

There is never a good time to concede, especially when you are rock bottom of the league. But when your confidence is so fragile, as Villa's is, and you have produced a decent 44 minutes of football (which is rarity), a sucker-punch in the 45th minute is a big blow.

You worry now that Villa could capitulate. Remi Garde will need every second of the next 15 minutes to work some magic.
