  2. 'Should have got Rafa earlier'published at 22:12 British Summer Time 19 April 2016

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

    Alan Shearer
BBC Radio 5 live at St James' Park

"They should have got Rafa in a bit earlier and I don't think we would be in the position we are now."

On Newcastle's next match: "Liverpool have a midweek game, I would imagine that Jurgen Klopp would change his team around against Newcastle, which might or might not benefit us.

"The Liverpool guys that will come in will be fresh and raring to go. I'd be surprised if we got anything from Anfield. The Crystal Palace game is a must have three points and the Aston Villa game is a must-win three points.

"We've got to win those games if we are to have a chance. I'm sure he'll get a tremendous reception from the Liverpool fans. All he can ask is that his players show the same belief as they have tonight and if they can nick a point, catch Liverpool on a bad day he'll be delighted with that."

  3. 'Every point is important'published at 22:08 British Summer Time 19 April 2016

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini: "We knew it was going to be a very tough game. Newcastle are playing against relegation and they are at home.

"We created chances but not enough to win. Every game in the Premier League is intense and if you don't keep it up for 90 minutes you don't win games.

"It is very important now to make some rotation as we play at the weekend and then Real Madrid next Tuesday.

"Always in the Premier League every point is important if you want to reach your targets."

  4. 'He dominated'published at 22:05 British Summer Time 19 April 2016

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

    Alan Shearer
BBC Radio 5 live at St James' Park

"I thought Jamaal Lascelles was man of the match. He dominated. For such a young guy to come in, to show that presence, that motivation. I thought he was brilliant again tonight.

"It goes to show how bad it has been this season that we're here talking about their commitment."

  5. 'This is an intimidating place'published at 22:04 British Summer Time 19 April 2016

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez: "The fans appreciate the effort of the players. Everybody is trying to do everything to stay up.

"Hopefully yes [we have momentum] but we cannot have influence on other teams' games. We have to keep believing and hopefully win the next game.

"I said when I came that it is an intimidating place for other teams. That is what we are looking for and that is what we have."

  6. 'The atmosphere gives hope'published at 22:00 British Summer Time 19 April 2016

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

    Alan Shearer
BBC Radio 5 live at St James' Park

"It's taken Benitez a while to know his players, to understand his players. Mitrovic is out, Shelvey is out, they're out for a reason, they've not given enough to the team.

"The one thing that stood out for me was the atmosphere. The crowd's reaction towards the players where they gave them a round of applause. There's a little bit of hope now when there wasn't a few weeks ago."

  7. 'I am happy'published at 21:57 British Summer Time 19 April 2016

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City Manuel Pellegrini: "I am happy. We started winning the game but we could not have the control after that. We knew that it was very tough.

"The officials have nothing to do with the result. I didn't see the team with the energy from Saturday, but we play after three days at the end of the season and it is not easy for the team to recover.

"We are just trying to add points. Sergio Aguero's record is deserved, he makes an important difference for us. I am happy for him. Vincent Kompany played well, he played 90 minutes and he was OK."

Charlton will join Bolton in League One next season after the sides drew 0-0 at the Macron Stadium. What a depressing evening all round...

  9. 'Playing with passion'published at 21:52 British Summer Time 19 April 2016

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez: "I have to be pleased because against a team like Man City, to do what we have done from 1-0 down, the reaction of the team, you have to be pleased.

"I haven't seen the replay of Sergio Aguero's goal but they tell me he was offside. You can not change anything. I think they should get it right but we cannot change it. That's it.

"The team has more belief now, the fans are behind the players and they will fight to the end. Today was an example of that.

"Vurnon Anita is very clever, he knows when he has to go forward. The players are doing what they have to do, they are playing with passion, with the commitment that the fans expect."

    Burnley 1-1 Middlesbrough

Will we be seeing these two back in the Premier League next season?

Michael Keane's injury-time equaliser salvaged Burnley a point against fellow promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough.

Both sides began the match in the top two, and Boro came close in the first half when Albert Adomah hit the bar.

League leaders Boro took the lead when Jordan Rhodes finished from six yards.

The Clarets looked like they would drop out of the Championship automatic promotion spots with Brighton winning, until defender Keane forced home a corner to maintain their top-two place.

  11. 'Not a bad draw'published at 21:46 British Summer Time 19 April 2016

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany: "It was a tough game, they are playing for their lives. You wouldn't call it a bad draw. We need to win as many games as we can but I have seen a good Newcastle team tonight. It was a hostile environment and not a bad result.

"The hardest part of coming back from injury is getting back to the level of the Premier League. The more games you play the better you will feel. Overall it was a positive day.

"Sergio Aguero has been a major player for us and there are not enough words to describe how important he is. We just hope he can carry on his career like this, it's hard to come across a player who can have such an impact on games like he does."

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

    Alan Shearer
BBC Radio 5 live at St James' Park

"Certainly on tonight's evidence, and on Saturday's, there's now a togetherness. The fans appreciate now that the players are giving everything. They've given themselves an opportunity - three points on Saturday and a point tonight which is not a disaster. On tonight's evidence, the players are certainly with Benitez."

Chris Davies: Is it me or does Sterling do absolutely nothing week after week? Absolutely no presence, strength or ability.

Matt Price: Don't think it will be enough for Newcastle. Still behind Sunderland and Newcastle and of course, Sunderland have game in hand

Jon Barton: Where has this feisty, positive Newcastle side been all season?! McClaren should've gone WEEKS earlier

It's messy, frantic, cracking stuff now as City take three attempts to hack out a corner. Cheick Tiote then brings down Raheem Sterling and this will allow the visitors to have a breather.

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

    Alan Shearer
BBC Radio 5 live at St James' Park

"What on earth is Kolarov doing? He misses the ball and Joe Hart comes out. What a very good save that was. Crazy play from Kolarov - just get rid of it."

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 87 mins

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

Wow - what a save! It's terrible from Aleksandar Kolarov as he makes a hash of a routine clearance and Georginio Wijnaldum smells blood. He drives into the box, he has two defenders around him but manages to get it out of his feet and shoot but Joe Hart spreads himself to save brilliantly! Big moment!
