Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini for MOTD: "We should have won that game, and I think we deserved it. We played very well. Our first 25 minutes were some of the bets here this season. But Arsenal's goals were good.

"Things are now out of our hands but we will find out on Tuesday. We must keep our heads clean and chins up and try to win our last game.

"This is different to the game against Real Madrid. We wanted to reach the Champions League final but it was out first semi-final in that competition. In my time here we have improved a lot in the Champions League. Also, for me, it's been about our style of play. There have been a lot of positive things but we must qualify again for the Champions League this season."

Arsenal boss Arsene, for MOTD: "I am not disappointed because twice we were losing and twice we came back. It was a game that was very, very intense. It was an unbelievable fight today and the most intense we have played for a while.

"It was Danny Welbeck's knee again - let's be optimistic and wait until he has had a scan.

"Jack Wilshere had three games with the reserves and though he finished tired today he played well. It's difficult to measure how much we have missed him this season because of course you want your best players available so you can rotate. If you have injuries you cannot do that.

"I believe overall Manuel Pellegrini has done very well at Manchester City. When you look at the players today, how they fought for him, that is a great credit to a manage. And as a man he is like by everybody and he has a lot of dignity and respect for the game, and I respect that."

City have a two-point advantage but now no longer have control over their own fate.

Arsenal's midfielder Jack Wilshere for MOTD: "I feel good. That was just what I needed, a game of that intensity with the pressure.

"Both teams wanted to win but at the end of the day we'll take the draw. City looked dangerous and we couldn’t get out of our half at times, but we got back into it and at the end either side could have won it.

"This season has been disappointing for us - we wanted to win the league. If we can get third in the league we'll be delighted.

"I don’t want the season to end - I’m just getting started, I feel fresh, hopefully I can get more minutes next week and then we’ll see what happens."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger on Danny Welbeck's injury: "The first signs look like lateral meniscus. He looks down, and he's not a guy who likes to go off. I'm a bit worried. I don't want to say about the Euros - let's be a bit more optimistic."

Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini, addressing fans at the Etihad: "Not winning this game is not the way we wanted to finish the season. We want to qualify for next year’s Champions League.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, spaeking to Sky Sports: "I was surprised by the intensity of City's start. We expected an intense game but they really came out with strong pressure. The good thing is that we absorbed it and we've shown good character today.

"Man City today decided to give a big present to Pellegrini in his last home game - they were on fire. When it was 1-1 it didn’t look like we would score but when we were 2-1 down we looked hungry and dangerous again. The players wanted not to lose.

"When it was 2-1 I wanted to bring on Cazorla to get greater fluency, but at 2-2 I went for a bit more security because they had a number of attacking players on, like Bony and Sterling. 

"We have to finish the job now in the league against Villa - we want to finish the season with a win at home."

The fans who have stuck around at the Etihad are doing their best to make up for those who have left. Big cheers for Manuel Pellegrini.

Arsenal's Jack Wilshere, speaking to Sky Sports: "That point could be big, if we can win our home games. City are a good team and you don’t really want to fall a goal behind. But we showed character, we’ve got dangerous player son the break and Sanchez came up with it.

"We knew we’d have a lot of possession and throughout the game we felt comfortable and that we might hit them on the break.

"It was great to play, but a shame to come on for an injured player, especially someone like Danny. But to play in a game like this with such intensity was great for me."

"City, dear oh dear! Will they finish in the Champions League places? A massive match now at Upton Park featuring Manchester United on Tuesday. 

"Who'd have thought at the start of this season that Man City might finish outside the top four?

"Think about this - Louis van Gaal can win the FA Cup and see Manchester United finishing inside the top four. A massive improvement on last season."

Looks like the City fans are voting with their feet. The City players are due to come out to show their appreciation and Manuel Pellegrini will be out to say goodbye, but the stands have emptied fast.

"Yeah, whatever, bring on next season."

Twice City led, twice they got pinned back. City's Champions League hopes suffer a blow with a point that leaves them two points ahead of rivals Manchester United having played a game more.

Arsenal haven't quite secured a top-four spot yet but with Villa to come at home you would think they will.
