    Tottenham 1-0 Southampton

Nice link-up play between Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen nearly sends the latter through. But the Spurs midfielder can't dig out the ball from under his feet and it is an easy save for Fraser Forster.

Get it out! Panic stations in the Spurs box - not often we've said that this season - as that bag of leather pings around like a pinball. It finally breaks to Sadio Mane who has a pop but only finds the legs of a Spurs defender.

The shadow of the White Hart Lane main stand is causing havoc with player identification. Erik Lamela, I think, whips in a cross from the right flank, Harry Kane nips ahead of Jose Fonte but cannot direct his prod at the Saints goal.

"For composure alone that goal has to be up there as one of the goals of the season!

"Son wriggled and went past three Saints players before stroking the ball home. What a finish, a delightful goal!"

Dusan Tadic has a wand of a left foot apparently. Well, that is not magic. The Saints midfielder breaks forward unopposed, then slashes one well wide from distance.

What response can Saints muster? Does an attack ended by an offside flag count as a response? Nah.

Here comes the Son! Any excuse to get my favourite Beatles pun out. The Korean forward's eighth goal of the campaign  is his team's 68th in the Premier League - their highest seasonal tally since football began in 1992...

Oh dear. Fraser Forster won't want to watch this one on MOTD2 later...

With Harry Kane strolling back from an offside position, the Saints backline stops. Son Heung-min doesn't. The Korean races from deep, Forster decides to come out, makes a complete hash of it.

And Son keeps his cool to roll in from close range.

Have Tottenham spotted a weakness in Southampton right-back Cuco Martina? Plenty of the ball going down that side of the pitch. Which is where Danny Rose got in behind Martina for Spurs' best chance of the game so far.

Back up the other end...Danny Rose storms forward again, whipping in a low cross that just needs a touch. One isn't forthcoming and Saints survive. Cracking start at the Lane.

  13. 'Tadic could have drilled that'published at 13:43 British Summer Time 8 May 2016

    Tottenham 0-0 Southampton

    Bradley Allen
Former QPR striker on BBC Radio London

"Tadic should have scored. I'm not sure why he chose to cross the ball, having been slipped through by a lovely pass.

"Tadic had to go for a far corner and with his wand of a left foot I think he could have drilled that inside the far post. "

Square it! Steven Davis yells at Saints team-mate Dusan Tadic. Because if the Serb had looked up and passed instead of shooting, then Davis would have had the easiest of tap-ins. Instead Tadic's low angled drive flies past the wrong side of the post.

    Tottenham 0-0 Southampton

    David Pleat
Former Tottenham boss at White Hart Lane for 5 live Sport

"It's been a really fast start from Tottenham, and what a brilliant save by Fraser Forster!

"Tottenham are playing as though they hadn't experienced that disappointment against Chelsea on Tuesday evening."

A bright start from Spurs. Almost as bright as the north London sun. Son Heung-min almost wriggles into space inside the Saints box, then Christian Eriksen dances around Cuco Martino but can't pick out a white shirt.

Moussa Dembele looks in a daze as he sits in the Spurs stands. The banned midfielder probably still can't believe he won't play again until September.

  18. GREAT SAVE!published at 6 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Southampton

Stunning! Fraser Forster quickly drops to his left, sticking out his shovel-like left hand to block Christian Eriksen's sliding eight-yard shot. Spurs opened up Saints for the first time thanks to that man Danny Rose. The England left-back piled forward to find space and then pick out his team-mate.

    Bradley Allen
Former QPR striker on BBC Radio London

"It's crucial for Tottenham to respond well today. They will have looked at how clever and quick Southampton can be, especially on the break. Spurs need to maintain focus when they haven't got the ball."
